SOURCE: I have baked on aluminun foil on the bottom of my

If the bottom of the oven is enamelled or has a pyrolytic self cleaning surface then you can use caustic soda to remove aluminium foil.

Many oven and hob cleaners contain caustic soda and those which do always advise that it's kept away from aluminium parts precisely because of it's effectiveness in turning aluminium into grey foamy goo!

If you're in doubt as to whether your oven floor is caustic soda resistant then try a small test patch first.

Please note that caustic soda is extremely corrosive so you'll need to keep your hands and arms covered and preferably use eye protection as well.

It is most likely coated in grease, remove it and clean it first.

Viking oven locks up while baking. Cannot open oven door to remove food. What could be causing this problem?

Ovens usually lock when it thinks you are running the self-clean process. Unplug for 15 minutes and plug back in, if that fails call in service

hi Sue.
this is all i could find on the internet.or go to the link at the bottom.
Before starting the Self-Clean cycle:
  1. Remove the racks, unless they are labeled as "self-clean". ...
  2. Any excessive amount of spillover (juices or liquid grease) not baked-on should be wiped out with a wet cloth before running through a self-clean cycle.

I left silicone guard on grates and put on self cleaning. My oven is now filled with a white powder.

Thank you for your inquiry, Cheryl!

I understand that you left the silicone guard on the grates and turned on self-cleaning, now you have white powder inside of your Frigidaire range. This can be removed by using hot water, baking soda, and a non-abrasive cloth. It may take elbow grease in order to remove the white powder. I would recommend not using the oven until you have removed the white powder. I hope this information is helpful for you. -Matt

White residue left after using self cleaning feature - I can't remove it with soap and water and elbow grease. What would work? This looks awful!!!

The residue your seeing is the remains of whatever was left in the oven when you decided to creamate in. Grease, food, etc was basically turned to has and then powder coated into the metal. Bit of advice for the future though, avoid using self clean mode not only for the scenario you have, but for your bank account as well. The temperatures the oven reaches in self clean exceed that of which the oven cavity can handle letting heat pass upward, usually damaging the lock mechanism for sure, as well as the control board and touchpad.

I have a new Frigedaire self cleaning oven. Before I got to read the manual my daughter baked a cake which dripped onto the oven floor and began to smoke. To catch more drips I put a pice of tinfoil on...

Greetings,
remove as much tin foil that is possible...use something like hot water and mild detergent to loosen up the baked on cake residue...this should come up ok with alittle elbow grease...then run your self clean cycle...All will be ok....Bruce Denton

Door won't open after self-cleaning cycle is complete

Turns out that the latch is attached to a plastic piece (made by the manufacturer) and the spring melted! To boot, the fuse in the back which aids in heating the oven went out also. Repair man said this was typical after several uses in cleaning cycle. He recommended using a gentle steel wool pad with soap built in to gently remove backed on food instead of using cleaning cycle. It is just too hot for too long, and there seems to be a domino effect with things that will go wrong. Nothing like the old fashioned way and a little elbow grease!

How does self cleaning work on my frigidaire gas burner stove?

Self cleaning would be better named... Running the oven real hot to burn off residue.. so in essence, the oven is locked out and then heat is raised to a high level to bake out grease and food byproducts so they either burn off or turn to ash for easier cleaning.. Does that make sense to you? Most self cleaning ovens lock out the user until the oven has cooled down to a safe user-friendly level..
