The button on your touch could be stuck down. hold you touch in front of you and look at the square on the button. if the square is off, push the button and attempt to turn the button and get it back into it's groove. it has 2 ears on the sides that are supposed to be in a indentation.
if you can't get it that way it may need to be disassembled and fixed.

If the home button is not responding anymore, this application would be really helpful: ACTIVATOR.

Though you can be able to download it if your device has been jailbreak. And if CYDIA is already installed on your ipod.

Ipod touch screen is unresponsive but it makes sounds like normal

Fix an Unresponsive Ipod Screen
Many of today's electronic devices including cell phones, music players and portable game systems have a touch screen.
When a touch screen fails, it does not respond when you tap it with your finger or a stylus.
This can happen due to several reasons, such as a screen protector, dust or improper calibration.
You can often fix an unresponsive touch screen by cleaning it or resetting the device.
Remove the plastic touch screen protector sheet.
Some protector sheets are too thick and prevent the touch screen from responding to your touch. If you must use a protector screen, only use one that is licensed for your specific device.
Wipe the screen with a soft microfiber cloth.
Clean off any dirt, dust or fingerprints on the screen.

Dry your hands thoroughly.
The touch screen will not respond if your hands are wet.
Reset the device.
If your device does not have a "Reset" button, remove the battery, memory card or SIM card, then reinstall them.

Delete any third-party applications you recently installed.
Some third-party applications can cause your device to lock up or freeze.

Recalibrate the touch screen.
Look in the device's Settings menu for a calibration option and follow the prompts.

iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
If this fails to fix the problem
Press the "On/Off-Sleep/Wake" button and hold it for a few seconds, until a red slider appears. Press the "Home" button until the frozen app quits.
If this doesn't work, you can try restarting the iPod touch.
Press the "On/Off-Sleep/Wake" button if you need to restart the iPod touch, and hold it until the red slider appears on the screen.
Slide your finger over the slider to turn off the device.
Press the "On/Off-Sleep/Wake" button and hold it until the iPod touch turns back on.
If you can't turn off the iPod touch, you can try resetting it.
Press the "On/Off-Sleep/Wake" button while simultaneously pressing the "Home" button when you want to reset the iPod touch, and continue to hold the buttons for at least 10 seconds, until the screen goes black and the Apple logo appears.

The iPod is a portable music player made by Apple. As of early 2011, Apple sells four models: iPod shuffle, iPod classic, iPod nano and iPod touch. If your iPod experiences a problem such as not responding or freezing, you can reset it to see if that takes care of the problem. IPod Shuffle The iPod shuffle is the smallest iPod model, with 2GB of storage.
It has no screen and attaches to your clothing with a clip, making it well suited for exercising while listening to music.
When it doesn't respond, or if the status light is solid red, you can reset it.
Slide the three-way switch left toward the word "Off," covering the green bar. Wait 10 seconds, and then slide the switch back to reveal the green bar to turn it back on.
IPod Classic
The iPod classic has a 160GB hard drive for storing music, videos and pictures.
If it experiences a problem, you can easily reset it.
Slide the "Hold" switch to the "Hold" position and then slide it back.
Press "Menu" and the center button simultaneously on the click wheel and hold them for about six seconds, until Apple's logo appears on the screen.
IPod Nano
Apple's iPod nano has a touch-screen display and comes with 8GB or 16GB of storage, depending on the configuration.
It has a pedometer and an FM radio.
If the iPod nano doesn't respond, reset it.
Press the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Volume Down" button simultaneously and hold them until the screen gets dark, and then wait a few more seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen, followed by the home screen.
IPod Touch
The iPod touch has a touch-screen display, two cameras for shooting pictures and movies, and Wi-Fi for accessing the Internet. Its capacity ranges from 8GB to 64GB, depending on the configuration.
You can use the iPod touch to send email and make video calls, as well as play games and run applications. If the iPod touch freezes or otherwise isn't working, you can get it running again after resetting it.
Press the "On/Off-Sleep/Wake" button and the "Home" button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, until Apple's logo appears on the screen.

The clicker located at the bottom, center of my ipod touch stopped responding and ive already re-started multiple times. what do i do? the serial number is: 1B741YS1W4T

it is possible the the button is just stuck or crooked in the cradle it sits in.
when you look at the ipod is the square on the button turned at all if so push it with your finger and turn to straighten it. it has 2 channels it is supposed to line up with.
also maybe it is dirty and stuck down. try clean around the edge with a qtip with alcohol but not so much that it is wet.
If this doesn't help you may have to have a tech open it and see why the button is not responding.
