Festina ifm6s10 crown won't stay pushed in

Brand new festina IFM6s10 came with the crown set in the 2nd position to set the time and that function works. I can press the crown in to the 1st position and set the date but only if I hold in and turn simultaneously. I can also press in and hold the crown in and the stopwatch will work. But the crown will not stay in the normal position and therefore the watch doesn't run normally. The manual is pretty useless as is the festina website for troubleshooting. Any ideas?

How do I set the time and date?

Twist the crown until you can pull it back one notch. This will set the alarm by twisting in one direction. If you twist it in the other direction, you will set the date. Pull back one more notch and this will set the time. One you've done this, push and tighten the crown back in and press the bottom right hand button. The second hand should begin moving.
