My dvd combo drive can't read or play in dvd format but can only play audio cd...what's the matter? miwi
Missing codecs or DVD player software might well be the issue here, but its well worth getting hold of some benchmarking tools for your computer system. go to http://www.google.com . Here you type in "benchmarking tools download" and you should get something that you either get for free or trial.
Give it a shot, then try installing something like Power DVD, or any other reputable player. Codec packs might be of benefit too, as could GomPlayer.
If you have DVD software installed, remove it, delete it from the registry and re-install, this should then work.
Very unlikely that its a hardware fault; if it was, then it probably would mean that your drive does not work at all. Of this, it would be a likely mechanical failure as apposed to an electronic one, afterallmoving parts will time to time, experiance mechanical wear and tear. Anyway, this is not your concern as such because I conclude that your issue is software and as said, is either due to codecs, or not having a working DVD software player working
I hope this is the fixya for you, and I wish you all of the best. Plese do let me know what happens, and if there are any other problems or questions you have, II will endeavour to answer these for you.
