SOURCE: file error

It could be either. There is not any way to tell, but if the problem is too bad I would replace the memory card first and then address the issue within the camera if it continues. David Millier Advance Camera Repair

SOURCE: File Error report on a W80 camera....

If you bought your memory card on eBay, there is a good chance that is the problem, as i had that issue myself....after dealing with the seller and getting my money back, i went and bought a sony 4GB card from Circuit City, worked fine for a while, and then got the same error. I have a feeling it has something to do with the camera's software. I havent tried the battery trick yet but its next on the list

My sonycybershot dscw 170 images are not able to read in windows xp system. But th memory card shows the used memry. but notthe actual file. Even i have copied the memry card to the hard disk no use....

Connect your card to a PC.
Then goto file explorer and explore your card for files, enable hidden and system files options from
Tools > folder options > Tab "View" > 1) uncheck "Hide protected operating files" and 2) check box "Show hidden file and folders".
This will enable you to see any hidden files as there are some viruses which hide the files on a memory card. As soon as you are able to see your files copy them to a new folder on your desktop.

1Gb SD Card

You have a hidden trash file on the card, emptying the system trash with the card mounted will also empty the hidden trash file on the card. To prevent this kind of issue and issues of your hidden system files showing up in windows, you can use a clean eject tool such as FinderCleaner to clean off all the hidden system files before ejecting the card, this is not strictly necessary and nor does it cause any harm it just prevents issues associated with these files.

My Vivitar 8025 has over 1000 pictures on my 2G drive. Suddenly, they appeared erased and now it is saying no file exists when you turn the camera on. What can I do to get my pictures back? Please help.

Take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that are available to help you recover your photos. This blog article reviews and outlines several of the better ones.
Now AFTER you've recovered your photos, you'll need to format your card IN YOUR CAMERA using your camera's built-in format feature. This will rejuvenate the card, and will prevent this from happening again (bet you never formatted the card when you first got it?). Formatting the card when first used is necessary to preserve the card's file structure. It may work fine at first if not formatted, but in nearly all cases it will corrupt with time if it wasn't formatted. Note that formatting will also erase the card, so again format only after you've recovered and saved your photos onto your computer.

Photos lost without deleting them. How can I

dont worry, you can recover photos from camera with asoftech photo recovery software, you can download the software from

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Start" and wait for it to do it's magic.

I have a cannon power shot sd900. I was fooling with the menu and accidently seemed to have erased my photos. Can they be saved?

Digital pictures are stored on SD cards as a file. These files occupy a fixed space on SD cards. Once deleted, your pictures will no longer be recognized by the digital camera, however the pictures are still there!
Take the memory card out or plug your camera into a Mac or Linux machine. If you have a Mac or Linux machine use a terminal window and look for hidden files using ls command.  This will show you the hidden files and your files should be in the .Trashes folder.  You can move them off the memory card with UNIX or Linux.

Recovering pictures from memory card

Try photo recovery software to rescue the lost pictures, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card(digital camera) in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital... Problem

Take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for:

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

Finally, after (and only after) you've recovered all your photos, format the card in your camera. Use "Full" or "Low Level" format, and NOT "Quick" format or "Erase Card". A full format will permanently erase all photos on the camera. But it should also correct this problem from reoccurring.
