Question about Refrigerators

Light not working. Replaced bulb and it still does not work. Suspect switch is bad. How do you remove switch? Kenmore model 363.9631513 It seems like it might snap out. I don't want to force it though. It's a top freezer type refirgerator from 1993.

First make sure that the "new" bulb is indeed working, by screwing it into any lamp socket. If the bulb is good then you are correct in thinking that the switch is the culprit. Yes, it does snap in and snap out. Put a blow dryer on it for a few minutes to make it a bit more plyable then put a putty kniife blade under each side to loosen it up.

On a Kenmore side by side refrigerator that has two light bulb sections, what causes the lights not to work?

The door switch provides a source of power to two things. Yes the door switch can be bad. What is your model number? There was some models that left the lights on when the door was closed and people would unscrew the bulbs just to sell them to people unaware. That problem was related to a bad relay on the motherboard

My kenmore light won't come on after changing bulbs

Hello. This model is a MICROWAVE. Are you sure the bulb you replaced was defective? And are you sure the replacement bulb is good? It's very easy to break the filament inside and due to the gorillas who ship this stuff, you wouldn't be the first to put a new, bad bulb in! One of the door switches is part number 503387 and there are 2 of them in the switch holder. The third switch is part number 3B73361E. The whole switch holder assembly with switches is part number 3501W1A019C. The part number for the main board is 6871W1S128A because *there might be a faulty relay on the main board causing the light to fail*.

The light won't work, I changed the bulb and it still will not work

Probably bad door switch. Look for a roughly triangle shaped piece of plastic that goes into its housing as the door closes. This is the door switch. Probably a similar one at the freezer door too. Snap this switch a few times with a good bulb in place. If bulb lights even once it is the switch. BE SURE BULB IS GOOD by trying it in a room lamp first.

Door switch can be pried out using a dull knife around the plastic. Do this with the power cord unplugged. Switches like this are common to many Kenmore or Whirlpool models.

there is a tab in the bottom of the light socket that can get bent so that it wont touch the base of the new bulb. unplug your refrig and use a small screw driver and bend the tab back out a little bit so that it will contact the new bulb...

The problem is likely on the control panel, which we repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This often can affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inopoerable or stuck on.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and

disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
