Question about LG LSC27950 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Refridgerator odor We believe a mouse has gotten into the machine. We have a foul smell that persists after several weeks. No obvious entry way from the back, but there must be something. What's the best way to search for this critter? Pull everything out from the inside, and try to remove the panels, or concentrate on the rear where all the mechanics are? The smell is only inside, both the fridge and freezer with about equal intensity.

Yes, I called them, the gentleman on the phone simply wanted to schecule a tech visit, at our cost. We are not interested in that until we have exhausted other options. I repair computers and cars so have the skills and tools to open this product up, but was looking for some direction on where to look for the deceased critter.

Hmmm...you can buy an on-line service repair manual for your appliance; or you can call an appliance repair shop local to your area and ask for guidance, too. Some older models had a condensate pan underneath the refrigerator and sometimes they would stink to high heaven if they collected alot of stagnant water. I was able to download the user's manual for refrigerator but that was useless; it suggests cleaning the interior of the freezer and cooling compartments with mild soap and water for foul odor remediation- but we both know that won't work. Good luck on your project and merry chris-mouse! Oh c'mon, I just had too. LOL

SOURCE: Freezer works fine refridgerator does not

anan, I think your display is giving you a code on these LG. See if you can find the tech sheet behind the toe panel. On your display panel from memory, 3 led's lit from the left means a failed defrost thermistor. This could be the reason you are frosting up and restricting the air flow. There is a main board in back that you can ohm out the thermistors. Connector 4, the two bright orange wires #5 and 6, should ohm at 19K ohms at 50 degrees. Now Im doing this from memory, if you can find your tech sheet, it will give you precise information. Catriver.

SOURCE: foul odor

Yes ,there is a condensate drain pan in the compressor compartment under your unit.
You should be able to get to it from the rear of the unit, by remove several screws.

Use caution and unplug unit before attempting any repair.
The pan can be cleaned out with warm soapy water.

SOURCE: Inside top of refrigerator hot light don't turn off.

There is a service bulletin related to this, dealing with deformation / melting of the lamp cover. The fix is to change the lamp wire harness to one that now has a thermal protector incorporated in it (part number 6621JK2003B) along with changing the main PCB board to one that uses a larger relay for this function (part number 6871JB1423N).

In case you want or need to replace the following,
The lamp cover is part number 3110JA1096A and the lamp holder is part number 3034JA1009A

I tried to cut and paste a few photo's, but was unsuccessful. Sorry. Make sure to test that fans and light switches work after part changes.

Foul Odor

Odor from the water softening system can be attributed to several causes.
The best way to see if it is coming from the softener is to by-pass the softener and run the COLD water only for several minutes and see if the smell continues. Now run the HOT water and see if smell is coming from the water heater.
Some causes may be:
1. Hydrogen sulfide in the water supply (the water chemistry can change)
2. Sulfate reducing bacteria. Almost all water supplies have sulfates and if bacteria gets introduced into the plumbing system it acts with the sulfates to create sulfate reducing bacteria. Which creates a rotten egg smell in the water.
3. Salt additives can have many different affects on water chemistry and organics in the water causing musty, fishy, swampy type smells.
4. If you have a system for Tannins using salts with additives will always cause foul smells as it harms the Tannin media.
5. The ANODE rod in the water heater degrades and gives off a sulfur type, rotten egg smell.

Foul odor from front load washing machine

Front loaders are known for building up mold and the smell.
It’s caused by using liquid detergent which is made from animal fat. Use powder. And use the minimum amount.
It’s caused by using fabric softener. Dilute it 50/50 with water.
It’s caused by the water remaining in the tub between washes. Leave the door open to allow it to dry. .
Pull the rubber door seal back and clean the mold off .

My 2 month old Amana Refridgerator with Freezer on

If your sure about spoiled food. Spoiled lemons are one of the worst, and the machine has not been abused, it's a problem of the selling dealer. Fan motors have been known to create an odor when their windings start to burn. Plastic items that become detached from the interior cabinet and wind up laying on the defrost heater which gets very hot during defrost is another, however, I would demand a service call (free) since everything on it is under warranty. Make sure it's creating the odor when the tech shows up.

If you purchased this machine NEW 6 months ago, everything on it is under warranty. You should contact the selling dealer to verify you are entitled to a free service call. Changing the filter is routine maintenance and in no way should affect the warranty.

Foul odor coming from freezer. Kenmore model w/ freezer on top.

Clean the refrigerator thoroughly fresh food and freezer under all drawers. Then place charcoal briquettes in each 8 or 10 total. 4 or 5 in the bottom of the fresh food section. leave the for several days. If that doesnt take away the smell consider if a mouse may have gotten into a fan blade and well that can create a really bad smell.

Affresh

Try reliable parts. There are many locations across Canada and the US. You might also get the Affresh tablets at an appliance retailer or hardware store but I'm not sure.

http://www.reliableparts.com/

Here are some (mixed) reviews of the affresh tablets. http://www.buzzillions.com/dz_708669_whirlpool_affresh_washer_cleaner_reviews#reviews

but like I said in my post, you may have to run a few full cycles with the tablets to get a smelly washer clean and then maintain it by using the product every 1-3 months or so.

You could also try this product: http://www.smellywasher.com/

This is an review on their site:
"I have to tell you I am very pleased. Having an acute sense of smell, I always get teased for smelling odors that others don't. For about 6 months we've had a mold/mildew odor in our 1 1/2 year old washer. I found your site on the internet and ordered SmellyWasher.
I can tell you my husband was amazed at all the mold coming up and I felt "vindicated". Here is the other interesting side of things. Coinciding with the smell of the constant mold/mildew for the last 6 months has been the fact that I have been constantly sick. I came down with cold after cold after respiratory sickness along with the rest of the family since Thanksgiving. I was literally getting sick of being sick. The last bout was bronchitis with whooping cough.
After I did the cleaning out of the washer with your product and removed all the mold/mildew, I have NOT gotten sick since and have had 2-3 weeks without any respiratory problems. I have come to believe that it has something to do with me cleaning out the mold, and no mold residue on towels or clothing. My husband is coming to believe this also. It's so nice to breath in and NOT smell the mold.......
I love your product and have told several people about it.

Smell

A product that we used earlier made by a small company in Florida has unfortunately disappeared from the market and we have looked for a replacement for a long time.
You problem brought me to look again and I found this:

http://www.amazon.com/review/product/B000LNWDEM/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?%5Fencoding=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

We will order it but I can't recommend it yet.
The other stuff was sold in drug stores in little bottles and really had nearly no odor of its own but instantly killed every odor we ever wanted to lose.

Odor blowing from filter area

It sounds like you will need to first clean it very well if you haven't yet and then most likely the problem is the rear hepa filter is ruined due to having sucked up what you did and gotten some on the filter.
Each time you turn on the machine hot air is blown through it and can smell very foul. I had gotten mine wet once from the machine tipping over and had to replace it because it started smelling moldy. Very easy job to do and its about 25 bucks and you can find them on ebay or other places. Hope this helps
