Question about Starbucks Saeco Italia Digital Barista Coffee Machine

1 Answer

Dispenses very little coffee / steam

I've had my Saleco Italia for almost a year now. Within the last month or two I've noticed I get very little coffee out. Specifically - about an ounce on the "double shot" size, even less on the single. We have very hard water here and I wonder if that is the issue, that something is clogged someplace and it can't get water through fast enough during it's heating cycle.

I tried cleaning the removable trey / mechanism as best I could, but to no avail. Steam is also very slow, and basically useless.

Re: Dispenses very little coffee / steam

Just program the button by holding it down until the coffee is dispensed and then let go when it is at the length you want it to be.

Flashing lights on my saeco italia espresso machine

I had the same problem, two green flashing lights with one red (water) all 3 would just keep flashing and not turn solid. No coffee can be made or hot water. I could not pump prime. The problem was the steam wand was blocked with old milk residue. It needs unblocking or you will never pump prime. I could not unscrew the steam I let it sink in a glass full of hot water for a few minutes and then turned the water knob counter clockwise to push out the softened residue. After that, everything was good. When water started flowing out of the steam wand, the red light turned off and the green lights turned solid. The obvious answer to why you can't pump prime is there is a blockage somewhere and best to start with the steam wand. --Mabada

Why would there be internal leaking into the tray

Never use vinegar to clean your machine. It is possible that the orings are worn out on the brew unit.

Saeco Digital Italia Fix

I had this same issue with my machine and unfortunately I had to send the machine back for repair. The steam knob should pop right back on, if positioned correctly. The people (Starbucks, Saeco) whom you spoke to were correct, that there is build up of steam (or back pressure) it will cause the knob to pop of in these conditions. The root cause of this problem is most likely (as in my case) that you steam wand is clogged. Even if you keep it cleaned externally, there may still be debris that builds up INSIDE the wand. To correct the problem, take some wire (we used decorating craft wire) that will fit into the end of steam wand. Push the wire as far up as you can and continue to move back and forth. Flush the wand either with steam or hot water and repeat several times. I do this every month or so to keep the debris from building up inside the wand. Good luck and I hope this works for you.

Super espresso machine leaking

Your steam manifold needs to be replaced. I still have the original in mine but if you don't cool them down after steaming they will develop hair line cracks and leak after while. To cool it down after steaming push the steam button again, then open the knob and run it till you have a steady stream of water, then close the knob.
The replacement manifolds are black and have held up very well but they have a brass manifold re[placement but you will need new mounting hardware.

Saeco italia error

What happens when you open the knob on the right? It may just need priming.
