I have the same problem and had a samsung technician come to the house. It was the Power Board and the main board. He gave me an estimate to fix and it was $529. I'm trashing the TV. Samsung sucks.

What happens before it shutting off itself?
Are you sure that the timer off isn't on?
Normally, the self off may happen because the TV goes into Protection Mode due to a failed circuit board.
sounds like your power switch is broken. Take the battery out of the remote and see if it still turns on and off. If not its your remote. If it keeps doing that, you may have to get the power button replaced.
I would try leaving the TV unplugged for 30mins so the TV can reset itself.
If that doesn't work, your TV should still be under warranty. I know 95% of come with a 1 year warranty.
The most common problem with Sylvania TVs made by FUNAI, the Backlight Inverter board fails to early in life. ( That's the part that powers the screen)
The Tv can't power up the screen and it turns off automatically. Basically called "Protection Mode" so it protects the other parts inside the TV.
Check the "Sleep Timer" settings. If set to 45 minutes then TV would automatically turn itself off 45 minutes from being turned on. The variance in the "on" times is due to the TV turning itself off after not getting a signal from the remote for fifteen minutes.
wen you go to play a muliplayer game and the second remote won't turn on automatically wen a button is pressed then with the player one remote go onto the wii menu then go onto wii remote settings ( at the bottom of the screen) then click on reconnect press 1 and 2 at the same time on the player one remote after a while it will turn on the do the same thing with the player 2 remote and it should turn on afer a few seconds
