Service & Maintenance Schedule TG7000 generator

We recently needed our generator during a power outage, but apparently the choke is stuck on. Gas was pumping all over the garage. My brother in law says portable generators don't need service; I believe that they need routine mtce., esp if not used often. Thank you for your reply. S

SOURCE: Generator dose not produce power, just stop working.

Check the rectifier board installed under gen cover that powers the brushes. This board has a capacitor about 1 inch long and 3/4 inch dia. If the capacitor looks swollen or burned replace board or carefully remove cap and replace with similar. You can use a larger capacitor with same rating, just tie cap to rear cover. Also check the condition of the brushes. Parts are not too expensive. Check with jacksmallengines on the web for parts. enjoy

Do yourself a favor. Ride to a dealership and ask if they would go over the recommended owner maintenance with you. Have them show you how to do an oil change, spark plug change, set the idle speed, add water to the battery, clean the air filter, check the fuses, change headlight bulbs, and lube the scooter. Purchase lubricants, oil, and spark plug from them. Make friends with the dealer. Ask questions; how often?, what quantity?, how do I measure that?, what tells me I need to bring the scooter in for maintenance or repairs? A good dealer will be happy to show you knowing you will get parts and supplies from them as well as have them do any major repairs.

Please take a moment to rate this answer. Thanks!

The current models of automatic standby generators will have LED indicator lights on the side compartment of the generator. A green LED light will indicate that the unit is in AUTO mode and is ready to run, or is running properly during a utility outage. The yellow LED light will indicate that maintenance is needed. The red LED will indicate either that the unit is switched to OFF or that there is an alarm detected. If a yellow or red LED are present, you will need to check the generator's control panel, as it will describe the type of maintenance needed or the alarm present. This information can be found in the owner's manual as well. You can find a copy of the owner's manual online by searching the model or serial number of the unit here

Kohler exercise causes engine spikes and gasping for fuel.

On exercise it isn't under load, you may have too much gas pressure, have the gas pressure and fuel/air ratio checked on the mixer

When we purchased our home in '04, it had a Dayton generator in the basement, model no. 3W056A, serial no. 55658 F83. It runs on natural gas, or so I've been told: It has never run since...

Let me make sure I read your post corerectly ... You have a Natural Gas operated generator hooked up in your basement? That's a train wreck waiting to happen! How is the exhaust vented out and how air tight is your basement? What keeps the carbon monoxide from reaching the rest of the house, when it's in operation?

Generators are a great back up. I have a 15 kw, that carries most of the house, plus 3 pumps during a power outage (Due to severe electrical storms, recently) we have had 2 power outages in 5 days. However, the National Building Code says "NO" to any type of generator being operated inside a residence or building of any type.

Without trying to sound critical, you need to rethink your plans of getting your generator running again. At least in your basement. Have it moved outside first and check with your local officials regarding clearances to any openings in the house. Or as you said "Just scrap it."

I sincerely hope this helps you make the right decision. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Our Generac Generator 04675 (15 kW LP) ran for 3 days in a row due to a power outage. It shut off for low oil on the fourth day. We Added 1 qt oil and we restarted it and it ran great for another day...

The only time a battery will blow up is if the hydrogen gas ignites. Usually what happens is that when the battery is being drawn like during cranking, or trying to be recharged at a high rate the battery begins emitting hydrogen gas from the sulfuric acid. This is usually why the battery is kept away from anything that sparks usually. When the hydrogen gas comes out it also slowly bakes off pure water. When this happens and the level drops below the level of the plates in the battery, when the battery has to make amperage during cranking an ark occurs accross the plates igniting the hydrogen gas and making a miniature atom bomb. Loud isn't it?? To prevent this from happening keep an eye on the charge rates of the battery and if the battery has removable vent caps, keep the level topped off with distilled water. Please also note that many residential gensets do not charge their own battery and rely on the maintenance charger to always keep the battery charged. Make sure the maintenance charger is on a circuit that will be powered by the genset during a utility outage.

Make sure the sparkplug is clean and gapped. Unloosen the float bowl slightly and drain about a half cup of gas out of the bowl. It is possible a little condensation got in to the fuel. Tighten the bowl nut slightly and try to start the generator.

Same problem, generator kicked in after power outage,

At the point the transfer switchis suppose to transfer put a dc volt meter across terminals 23 and 194 in the transfer if you do not show 12VDC. Then you have a relay hanging upon the PCB board in the generator, need to replace board. If you are showing 12VDC and the switch is not transferring the problem is in the switch itself.

It starts fine and runs on choke but not off choke

It sounds like you are not getting enough gas. I think it's the diaphragm, When you take it off of the choke diaphragm controls the gas flow, apparently yours is just shutting down. It's very inexpensive, and very easy to replace. Good Luck :)
