Thread is getting bunched up in machine

First thing: install a brand new needle.
Second: remove upper thread. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Set upper tension to the midway point between high & low numbers.

The tension is off ?? bottom thread bunches

Sounds like it could be! Probably worth trying to readjust it. Are you using a fine fabric too? That can cause bunching.

I am sewing on "WeatherMax" fabric (making golf flags) - an outdoor, lightweight, material; in the wind my fabric is fraying and splitting. Was it the needle? Is it the fabric? is it the machine? Did I cut...

Hi. Interesting problem. For outdoor materials (and advise on sewing on outdoor materials) I rely on Sailrite ( and interestingly, couldn't find Weathermax fabric on their site. I would contact their forum ( and ask the question there. Matt Grant (I think he runs the sewing part of the forum) is extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Sorry I don't have anything more for you,

Looking for user manual for Sailrite LS-1 and a source for a basic case for the same.

Go to the Sailrite site, open the "sewing machine" menu and choose "accesories". The is a case on the list which might be suitable.

Although I couldn't see any instructions option, the manufacturer should be able to supply one if you ask them, since they pubished it in the first place.

The top thread is coming out of the needle, how do I fix this problem?

check and see if the take up lever is in the down position when you cut the threads, if so it will pull the thread out of the needle on the first stitch always keep it in the up position when threading or removing the fabric

Sewing manual for a Reliable or Sailrite

The problem is that you purchased a clone of the Sailrite Ultrafeed. Most people do not know how much work Sailrite puts into each Ultrafeed Sewing Machine before it is shipped to customers. They hold 17 patents on the Zigzag Ultrafeed and know this machine inside and out. So when each machine goes through the assembly line in Indiana they are then tested by Sailrite in 2 layers of canvas then 8 layers of canvas then 4 layers of vinyl fabric if it does not sew it flawlessly they fix it, Ultrafeeds work right out of the box! So, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to get the clone machine to work. It must be totally rebuilt (a 4 hours process for an experienced technician). Sailrite will not work on any clone machines. So get your money back and buy a Sailrite Ultrafeed! If you are desperate and can not return the machine you can buy a DVD that Sailrite made for the Ultrafeed (each Ultrafeed purchased gets it free) it can be purchase here: . It will help with timing issues, but will not show you how and what to do to rebuild the machine.
