I have a hp 530 notebook with a 160gb harddrive, 1gb Ram, Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo CPU T2600 @ 2.16 GHz, 2167 MHz, 2 Core(s), 2 logical processor(s) and a mobile inte(R) 945 chipset. What or in which ways can i upgrade this notebook for better performance such as gaming without purchasing a new laptop?

To improve performance, increase the RAM from 512Mb to 1Gb or 2Gb.
The graphics card is part of the motherboard and therefore cannot be upgraded, BUT the graphics card used shared RAM (part of the main RAM) and you most likely can increase the video RAM by configuring the video RAM from the BIOS configuration.
You are basically limited to what was optional on the model. So you can only upgrade to one of the following cpus:
Intel Pentium M 745 (1.8-GHz) with 400-MHz front side bus (FSB) Intel Pentium M 735 (1.7-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB Intel Pentium M 725 (1.6-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB Intel Pentium M 710 TJ85 (1.4-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB; operates at a lower temperature than other processors Intel Celeron M 340 (1.5-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB Intel Celeron M 330 (1.4-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
And you are limted to 2gb of ram max on this model.
The only Thing To Do, is view both Motherboards, user Manuals.
To see The boards CPU Support List.
It could be to do with, certain Motherboards Supporting, certain CPUs.
I.e a 533mhz cpu, would not run on a Motherboard that supports 400mhz. The Systems Bios, May cause Other Problems.
If your getting a Black Screen, is it a possible Graphics/Ram Problem, Rather Than The CPU ??
Ofcourse 2.4 ghz is better than 2.1 ghz but its not a very big difference if price difference is more than 100$ than go for first one else second one is good and the most important thing i want to mention is that it all depends upon your needs you havent mention for what purpose you are going to purchase. But both are enough for gaming, daily use and for techie as well.
