Question about Kenmore Freezers

My deep freezer is not turning on

My deep freezer has been stored for about a year. We are moving and will have room for it once again so we decided to make sure it worked. I plugged it in and nothing happended. The ground prong on the plug was broken so I replaced the plug but still nothing. How do I check power to the compressor? The service panell shows a relay but I cannot find it and I don't know if it is even replaceable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The relay and overload are normally attached directly onto the compressor (and are replaceable) but it is very unlikely that would be your problem. The most likely would be that during storage, a mouse chewed a wire. If you can not find evidence of that, use a meter on ohms setting, or even a continuity tester would do, to trace the electrical path from the plug to the temp control and on to the compressor. Also, from the other terminal of the plug to the compressor.

HI Not sure if you have checked . BUT i would check to make sure the cooling fan is clear and not blocked. Dust and dirt and cat hair and dog hair can collect in and around the vents and and keep it from cooling properly. If it is the type of condenser that is on the back of unit then disregard.

I have a woods chest style deep freeze and the lid is very cold on the outside, but the sides are room temperature and the freezer works fine. Why is the lid cold and how can I fix it

Yes, the freezer temperature means the lid gets very cold. Every time you open it some moisture condenses in the lid and the outside ambient also affects it. The insulation may be beginning to break down and the ice is forming inside. It is not a major problem however and many freezers go on for years with freezing lids!

Hi most deep freezers operate at 0 dergrees. your model may have 2 temp zones. 0 or 20 deg.I'm gessind that your sensor is going off when the defroster is on to melt ice (defrosting). Lower the setting. monitor and repeat as needed. if it continues you may need to replace the unit or ad freon. If the unit is over 13 years ge a new one.

Can it be put in a carport year round

Cold weather will not cause problem. The refrigerant stays at gaseous state well below freezing temperature. If i am not mistaken R134 boils at -27 degrees F. below that it would turn liquid but even then it still will not harm the system. Make sure there is no water in the line going to the ice maker and water dispenser because water can freeze and bust the water line.

The fridge on my fridge freezer has stopped

just about all friges work off the frezer .the evap fan moves the air fromthe frezer to the frig.so you would here fan noise.i dont know your brand but on most frezers if you turn the frezer temp to the highest setting thats acomplished by keeping the air from going to the frige.hence warmer frig temps .also make sure fan on out side back is working and condenser is clean.again turn air damper control from frezer to frige to lowest setting .somthimes this could be in frig section.God bless ,tom

Not all shelves freezing Alarm on

If this is not a frost free unit. I say replace it. I don't believe in recharging a deep freeze. You can never really trust them again. The food inside is worth more than the freezer. If this is a frost free unit, See if the fan inside is working. This can also be a defrost system proplem such as a timer and well worth fixing.
