Whirlpol LSQ8243 Washer Stopped Working

I have a Whirlpool LSQ8243JQ0 that stopped working in the middle of the rinse cycle. We hand to manually bail out the water. If I move the dial to start over nothing happens. My wife said that when it happened she smelled smoke and now all I hear is a humming sound coming from it when I try to start a new cycle. I'm no expert but I'm guessing it's either the motor or the pump. Is this something that a patient and somewhat technical person can troubleshoot (with your help) and fix myself?

My father had the same problem with same model about a year ago and it was the switch. If the machine continues to run up to the point of the spin cycle obviously the motor works and so he fixed the switch/timer that changes the cycle. In expensive but use a manual to guide you in reaching the switch and you will be able to manually turn the switch by hand observing that the spin cycle once reached times out or short circuits.

You are right, it is either the pump or the motor, yes this is something that you can do yourself. Best thing to do is remove the back cover. Look inside the machine and have your wife turn it on. Keep your hands clear from all electrical and anything that looks likes it moves. See if you can see if the belt is attached or slipping and from there we can diagnose more together

Washer is won't spin

Hi just read your posting. Now from the information in your posting the machine is not draining. Is this correct? Now what I need you to do is to 1st remove all the clothes from the machine and bail out the water by hand with a small pot or bucket.Only bail enough water so it does not leak out when you lean it back against the wall. Now I need you to look under the machine ,Hence the reason for bailing some of the water out, and tell if your pump is the type with a red or black fan attached to it.The pump is located under the machine to the front right. If you have this type of pump turn the fan with your hand clockwise a few times then anticlockwise a few times. This is to loosen it up if the pump is blocked. If the pump frees up and you can turn the fan easily then put the machine back upright and select a spin cycle and push the start button. Please reply and and tell me how you got on or if your pump is the one without the fan, also reply back if it does not drain and you require more help.

Our washer just stopped working. It was on the

Unplug your washer for 10 minutes, and retest. If this does not reset your spin cycle you will have to let me know what brand and model this is. Appliance Specialists

Fisher Paykel will not drain

I had the same problem. After cut the power off for at least 60 seconds and then back on, as the manual suggests, the problem remained. Therefore I started putting the clothes out and bailing the water out. Once the water was down about half way the pump started working. I suspect the sensor was "stuck". I cycled the washer without clothes and it worked fine. Still working after several loads of laundry. The water level sensor will probably need replacing sometime soon.
