Cant find the slave drive on boot

Master/Slave configuration I am assuming you have IDE hard drive and not SATA. SATA is a small cable IDE is a wide 40 wire flat cable. You must install the jumper on both drives as master and slave. On the old WD HDD master has jumpers between 5 and 6 and slave jumper between 3 and 4. Default is jumper between 1 and 2 which is cable select which you use for a single drive.

Desktop Acer M1641: 1 IDE optical drive+ 1 SATA HDD. When SATA disabled, both drives appear in Bios n boot sequence. When SATA enbled, only optical drive in Bios. When both are present (as said before)...

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to IDE-1 means Pri slave escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
you will have to have master with slave set up
you can find the jumper location next to the power on a hard drive and the settings for plastic jumper location is usually printed on the top of a hard drive
IDE-0 means Pri master ?
IDE-1 means Pri slave ?
IDE-2 means Sec master ?
IDE-3 means Sec slave ?

Hope this helps

Getting three beeps with my asus m4a785t-m motherboard initializi

Okay, not much else is mentioned about the system so I would assume you have one CD/DVD drive and now two HDDs and your new HDD is still set to factory default of "Cable Select" or CD, if not and the new hard drive is a replacement for a damaged OS (Operating System) drive, then you need to insert the Windows OS Installation disk prior to booting and set the system to check your CD-ROM before checking Hard disks, for the OS.

First off if IDE, you have a ribbon that resembles this [====[========[ the furthest to the right would be what plugs into you motherboard, being the one with the furthest distance between itself and the next plug/connector.The one on the other end is for the Master drive and teh middle one is for Slave.

If only one HDD, then the jumper for the new drive needs to be set to Master and the CD/DVD-ROM needs to be set to Slave.
  • If two HDDs & one CD/DVD Rom, On the primary IDE Controller, set the OS HDD to Master, the CD/DVD-Rom to Slave & put the second HDD on the secondary IDE Controller as Master.
  • If two HDDs & 2 CD/DVD-Roms they must be set up on totally different IDE controllers to cancel out the chance of cross-communication. This happens on some systems because of having two CD/DVD Roms and/or two IDEs. So, we set the OS HDD to Master on the Primary IDE Controller & we set the CD/DVD-Rom to Master on the second IDE controller and the
I would normally say that three beeps from the motherboard itself would be either graphics card or memory problems, normally solved by simply pulling either or both and reseating them. Wear Nitrile gloves (the blue ones) to keep oils and static charge from damaging the components, ground yourself &/or touch the case before and while pulling the components. Check this site for "Post Codes" if the beeps are coming from the MoBo... if you have Award BIOS (should show what BIOS brand when booting up the system)

Award BIOS Post Codes

If three beeps from the system itself, then that would say it can't find the OS... and you might possibly also find an error on the monitor, stating something similar to "no power to monitor".

If you don't have an illustration on your drive telling you what pins are for what when it comes to the jumper, then search google for the drive brand and the word "jumper" or words "jumper configuration" or "jumper placement"

example: Maxtor Jumper configuration

If the system is SATA only (I believe it to have at least one IDE controller unless the board's controllers are all blue & black, to which I see a controller, but can't tell if it is FDE or IDE), then you'll most likely have to enable the SATA controllers in BIOS and set the boot preference/sequence/order as mentioned above, to check the correct disk for the OS, after removable devices & CD-ROM. Should be that order anyway, with floppy seek disabled to save wear on the head.

Hope that was not too much and that it helps!

When i plug my new hard drive into the laptop nothing happens..what can i do?

What type of HDD? Sata or IDE? If it's an IDE, make sure you set the jumper in the correct command, (Cable Select, Slave or Master), if it's a SATA, then after starting the laptop, get in the Bios and make sure that the Bios recognize the HDD, if it does not recognize it, then the HDD could be damage. We are talking about an HDD without any OS in it, no?

I have bought new hard drive of 160GB Seagate IDE. because my HITACHI 250 GB sata drive was giving problem. i have installed O/S in my new 160 IDE. but the system is taking my old sata HITACHI as the...

At boot up press F2 to enter the BIOS. That is where the change has to be registered for your PC to recognize the new HDD. So when you get the first meny there you will find the HDD. If not, then auto detect the HDD. Within a second or two your new HDD will be recognized. Also from the back of the new HDD. ie, the Seagate, check if the Seagate is the master. If not, then you will find a diagram there which tells you how to change the jumper so that your HDD will behave as master. And I hope you are not using the other HDD as well?

My computer shows to setup array and does not detect one hard disk

Please try to system reformat/reinstall OS to your HDD under SATA connection. then kindly check the jumper setting of HDD under IDE connection which I suggest to place it at Master while the SATA HDD will be automatically recognized as Slave by your computer. best regards

Connecting an IDE HDD to a SATA port using an IDE to SATA converter

Not complete product...need to buy additional adapter for IDE to SATA power source.
IDE drive will have to have the power source hooked up as well as the adaptor hooked up.
Installing the adaptor only will not work. Your computer should have the 4 pin plug for the power to the IDE drive, other wise you will have to buy another adaptor.

NI8 SATA DVD Drive compatability

You must have added the SATA drive after setting up the IDE. If both drives are using the same os this will not function. Ony one drive can have the os on it. All SATA's are seen as a master.
To correct this problem, disconnect the IDE drive. Hook up the SATA drive. Again if the SATA has the os on it everything will run. Change the jumper on the IDE and set it as a slave. Hook the IDE up. Enter the bios & do not list the IDE in the boot to section. Problem solved. While in windows, format the IDE drive.
You do not want windows thinking you want a dual boot system.
So you understand, in the bios -boot settings this is how things should be listed.
Boot device 1 Sony Optiarc DVD drive
Boot device 2 WD raptor SATA, In-stall your os to this drive
