SD card is only a storage device for data. It has no direct function other than storing pictures. Check your power supply, usually the batteries to see if you have full power. Make certain the batteries are in properly, aligned + to the + post etc.
Check to see if the settings are correct. If all of the above are in order, then the shutter control unit may have malfunctioned and thus Good Bye camera. Not worth the cost of repair.
Lastly, contact the manufacture and ask support for their opinion.

SOURCE: I have a Pentax OPTIO

Does a different card work in the camera?
Can you read the card on your computer with a card reader?

and...check the little slider thingy on the side of the SD card, flick it up, try it, flick it down...try again.
check the SD slot on the camera, anything stuck in there? lint? dust? sand?
Blow it out with canned air.

Eliminate the card as a problem...hope it's the card then worry about the camera.

Good luck

The shutter button has a little nib on its end that can break off with age. This tiny piece of plastic extension is needed to fully depress the shutter switch inside the camera. There's a fellow on ebay that sells these with instructions (see this link). But sometimes you can get a better deal by buying a broken A520 with other issues, and just cannabalizing this part.

Cant take a picture although camera turns on

2 possible solutions. !. try using another SD card. if the one in the camera is full, you cannot take a picture. 2. Try another SD card for transferring, (and taking pictures) and try transfer of this card in another camera or reader, such as the one in photo print places.

About the memory cards to be used with this camera, those could be:
- MMC / SD card (Up to 2GB Guaranteed)
- SDHC card (Up to 4GB Guaranteed)

Some cards are not compatible according to the memory card
manufacturer and memory card type.

If that is the case, i'll be advising you to try 1 GB so it will work.

But if it still does the same thing with the 1 GB card or with whatever cards you're using, you could still take more pictures even without a memory card. It's just that you need to adjust the picture size and quality to the lowest resolution to have more pictures taken.

To change the size:

Rotate the mode dial to PROGRAM:
- Press +/- button (2nd button)
- Go down to where you're see 6M, 5M, ... 1M
- Select 1M for the lowest size
- Press MENU/OK to save changes

To change the quality:

Rotate the mode dial to PROGRAM:
- Press +/- button (2nd button)
- Go down to where you're see Dots corresponding to NORMAL, FINE and SUPER FINE
- Select NORMAL for the lowest quality
- Press MENU/OK to save changes

To turn off camera after the settings
have been changed to refresh the camera.

If it still does not work, you need to contact the Manufacturer.

I hope this help you a lot.

No picture taken when shutter release is pressed

if you see no reation of the pressing of the button i.e. no focusing, no error message nothing , then most probably a simplest problem , the shutter release button may not be working for few reasons : 1) defective switch. 2) defective flex cable. 3) camera exposed to some physical jerk or dropping resulting into disalingment between inner switch and the shutter release button.
