Toyostove Laser 56 (F type) making loud humming noise

After some time of operation the stove begins to make a very loud humming noise, the flame in the burning chamber gets bigger and turns orange, It seems if we squeeze the intake hose to slow/stop the flow of air into the system for a moment it will stop for a few minutes.

Re: Toyostove Laser 56 (F type) making loud humming noise

Jack Pot,

Your L56 is an older unit and has been around a while. The noise is due to the burner mat or coating being erroded. Your burner pot needs to be cleaned and a new mat or coating and a new burner ring installed. An F model Toyostove has been around since about 1990. It's time my friend.

Re: Toyostove Laser 56 (F type) making loud humming noise

The toyostove is basically a glorified monitor heater.  its components are a combustion blower, an air circulator fan, a flame pot, a flat wick or burner mat, a solenoid pump, an ignition element, double  walled intake, exhaust pipe.   the combustion blower is a glorified vacuum cleaner motor. it sucks in cool air and channels it to the combustion chamber along the sides (round cylinder) kero enters on the burner mat where it ignites. the solenoid pump keeps adding kero until the flame detector spots or heats up. air flow to the pot is regulated by a damper in the combustion air blower line. if the "O" ring in the damper is missing or hardened it will not regulate the air flow which is necessary for combustion.  replace this "O" ring should take care of your problem.

You did not say, but I would guess you have a Laser 56 heater. If so, you need to have the combustion chamber overhauled. The burner mat has lifted and the ring will need to be replaced. Cost will be around $150 or so. It's time, 13 years is a long time ago.

I have an error EE 2 on my lazer 56 toyostove Does anyone know what that means?

EE 2 means its not getting fuel, your flame sensor could be dirty, or there could be a problem with the circuit board. The heater goes thru a 3 min warm-up/purge before the pump comes on. If the pump is making a loud ticking sound then it isn't getting fuel. You should then check your filter and the strainer in the fuel sump. If the pump isn't making a noise you could check the flame rod and clean it with some steel wool. You should check to make sure the igniter is working also. After you turn your heater on the cover on the igniter will start to get warm and will get very hot before the purge is done so use caution. Hope this helps.

I have a toyo laser 56 stove. It is starting to make a moaning noise. what shoud i do?

You need to have a new mat put in the bottom of the burner. When this mat lifts, sometimes the flame will cause a moaning noise with a large yellow flame. A new mat and maybe a burner ring will fix ya.

Toyo Laser 56 EE2 message--no flame? valves open and clean filter

You might of got type 2 fuel oil. If it is a smaller tank sometimes the fueler doesn't clear the line before filling and you'll slug down some type2 which will snuff the flame.
Check to see if the filler kinked a line outside while filling.
Just an Idea...

Toyo 55, igniter gets hardened build-up

Your Laser 55 burner mat has erroded away. The fuel is pooling someplace in the burner rather than spreading smoothly over the bottom. The stuff on the igniter may be hardened carbon from a poor flame. Bottom line is some burner work. A new mat, ring and cleaning the burner air holes is in order. Don't be surprised if the heat chamber is cracked beyond repair when you get it off. NOW for the bad news. The Laser 55 and 72 are older heaters. You will find just about all the electrical parts are going to be hard to find. They are no longer being made. Your 55 will be able to use the newer 56 blower, mat and burner ring. You will also be able to use the heat element off a 56 as well. If there is a problem with the fuel pump causing your poor flame you will be out of luck.

Good luck,

Toyo 56

Hi ejohn,

There is no valuable, practical adjustment for the flame on a Toyo Stove. A yellow flame can be caused by several things. How old is the stove? When was the last tune-up? A dirty sooty carboned up stove will have a yellow flame. A breach in the flue pipe will cause a yellow flame. An incorrect installation of the flue and exhaust hoses/metal exhaust elbow will cause a yellow flame. In the last scenario, the intake will be hooked to the exhaust and the exhaust will be hooked to the intake ports of the flue pipe. A malfunctioning fuel pump can also cause a yellow flame. The wrong fuel can cause a yellow flame, too. Most likely, your stove is dirty and needs a tuneup. It should have a bright blue flame if it is clean, and operating correctly. You can download a manual at REE, Anchorage through a Google search. If you want a more detailed diagoses, write back and give me more detail and I can help you further. Toyotech

Toyostove Laser 56 EE 2 error

I have been working on Toyo's for 14 years now. During this time I have never seen a flame rod that was bad except ones that people have broken themselves. The rod is just a piece of heavy wire that is insulated against the pot. It is almost impossible to mess it up. Now, that being said, you can have a problem with the flame rod being dirty or sooted. Since your stove is so new I would look at the fuel system. If it is clean I would go after the burner mat. There have been mats lately on new stoves that have caused them to soot up. When this happens the flame rod gets covered with soot and gives the EE2 message. A new stove that has a burner mat problem would be covered by the warranty. Bad fuel that causes a problem will not be covered. The other thing that is not covered is a stove that has had an iced up the exhaust pipe. A good dealer should be able to help you get the stove going and explain the warranty.
