If it is a cd reciver open up the cover and look for eye like shiny lens it is below the loading mech u may have to get some stuff out first for the access to lens when u see it take a tissue paper and clean it in cicular motions 10 to 12 times and then re fit

if u are not technical just but a cd lens cleaning around 2 $ cheap with brushes installed put the thing in and it will do the job but i think manual procedure is good for that

otherwise ur LENS is finished get a new player u cant find parts so cheap but u may at EBAY

pls rate me WELL !

I have a sony CFD-S01 which will play commercial cd's but when a cd-r is inserted it either won't recognize the disk or it jumps constantly after appros 10 sec, any ideas?

The CFD-S01 is designed for use with CD-R and CD-RW discs. With that in mind a few things come to mind. Are the CD-R discs you are using music or data discs? There is a difference and some CD players do not get along with data discs and won't play them well if at all. Also the burn rate used can have an effect - too fast and it won't play well. If a disc doesn't play at all it might not be finalized. A disc must be finalized on the recorder it was burned on before it is playable on any other machine.

My sony CFD-E100 won't recognize CDs

use a cotton swab to clean the optical lens-which is seen by opening the CD cover. if after cleaning the lens it still doesnt play a cd - exercise all manual switches(could be a dirty cd/radio switch), several times. after these steps, and the cd still refuses to spin...its hopless. the optic is bad.and not economical to repair. bet the cotton swab does the trick.

The CD spins, but will not play. It does not seem

Your laser head has probably gotten weak, or the spindle motor is worn. You can probably replace either yourself if you're VERY mechanically inclined, otherwise I would leave that up to a shop.
Good luck.

My cfd-510 radio wont play cd's how can i fix it? everytime I try to play a cd it atempts to but can't

Open up the top and try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails to resolve the problem, then the optics need to be replaced. These units use KSS-150 optics, I think. These are still available (or a substitute) for around $20 for the part.

My CFD-Z501 won't play a disc. I get the message "no disc"

Try to use CD/DVD clening disk ($6 in Walmart). Or simply use cotton swab (Q-TIP) and 40 % ethyl alcohol (vodka) or 50-70% isopropyl alcohol (NO ACETONE), depending on your budget.
Also check if discs are inserted correctly and not damaged/durty etc. Also check your discs. Some CD-players dont accept burned CDs (copyed). I believe Sony is not the case, just a suggestion.
If cleaning wont help lens might be damaged.
Good Luck

Play mode

Tape the play button down (better if you have a repeat button) I have done this and used a marble under the tape to simulate a thumb-like pressure imitation

Won't read disk

I had this problem on my Panasonic since it has a mechanised front tray loader. There are a couple of things you can do: clean the CD with toothpaste and dry the CD with a fabric cloth - not paper as this will scratch the CD.

Vacuum out the CD player by using a crevice tool and carefully insert into the mouth of the CD player to get rid of any dust.

If the CD has been burnt from a computer, it may not recognise on the Sony unit even if it states it can play CD's from PC/Mac. Usually after a CD has been burnt its best to play it on your computer before transferring to the stereo unit of your choice.

Usually the clicking noise means that the music is trying to get through but something is stopping it.
