Ryobi 1.5 HP compressor. We seem to be getting air pressure. The gauge does not move off zero but when we release the pressure valves afterwards there is plenty of air released. However, we're not getting any air through the pump hose.

The regulator knob may not be letting any air past it. It's the only valve that controls the amount of air pressure is let into the hose.

SOURCE: My EC12 builds up pressure, but then releases all but about 10 psi.

The non-return valve is sticking and it's an easy fix. First, for safety, unplug the electric power to the unit and release any pressure in the tanks. Then unscrew the cap of the non-return valve (between the compressor and the tanks). Inside you should find a tapered rubber plug which is probably sticking in the valve housing. Sand down the diameter of the large end of the plug, being careful not to damage the flat face at the narrow end (which is the sealing surface). For sanding try 400 or 600 grade wet-or-dry paper and sand until the plug just moves freely in the housing. Reassemble and the compressor should work. Incidentally it's an oil-type unit, and quite durable. Make sure it has enough oil.

SOURCE: WILL NOT BUILD PRESSURE

Many craftsman compressor are built by champbell hausfeld using a dry type of cylinder and piston (no oil, no crankcase). If dry type, check for worn cylinder and piston ring. Pieces of the vinyl ring can jamb between the reed valves in the head causing air to escape from the intake. If your compressor has a crankcase and oil, check for broken reed valves in head. Spray soap solution on hoses, checkvalve, drainvalve, and fittings to check for leaks. Most likely problem is reed valves broken or open. Parts are available from sears or match parts to chpower.com. enjoy

SOURCE: Air leakage through pressure switch needle

1)Let your unit pump up.
2)Turn it off.
3)Find the supply line from the pump to the tank.
4)Remove the supply line from the pump head.
5a)If you hear air coming from the tank you have a bad check valve.
5b)If you do not hear air coming from the tank, you have a leaky
pressure switch.

SOURCE: Air pressure gauge does not move on Craftsman 1Hp, 12 Gal. Air Co

I would say that the gauge needs to be replaced. These are common items so go to any auto parts or craftsman hardware store and purchase a replacement.

be sure to use some joint compound or teflon tape on the threads so u dont have any leaks.

SOURCE: Ingersol T30 won't shut off and blows pressure release valve

the wire juction box on your compressor has a pressure switch that may be wound in to tight take the cover off the box there should be a switch with a machine screw with nut and washer and spring back this nut off and see if that helps if you go to far you just crank it back in until the switch hit although it may be the other way around you may have to tighten to lower the pressure some of them are made that way if this does not solve your problem send me a picture of the switch and can solve it from there

Campbell 5 hp 26 gallon compressor. Why isn't air pressure indicated on gages?

If you run the compressor with the gauges removed, does air come out of that port? If yes, does the compressor build up enough pressure when the gauges are attached to give you enough air pressure at the end of the hose? If yes, then the gauges are bad.
If you are not getting enough air pressure to do any work, then there is still a problem with the compressor. Check the unloader valve (release valve) on the pressure switch to make sure it's not leaking when the compressor is running.

Compressor not releaving head preasure

The head pressure is released thru the needle unloader valve at the pressure switch. Notice a 1/4 inch plastic tube (or metal) running from the intank check valve to the pressure switch. After pressure switch reaches set pressure a small tang moves up and presses on the needle valve releasing the pressure. Only a small amount of air will be released. If however air continues to escape from the needle valve, then the check valve is bad.

The compresor is not building up the pressure, it only reaches like 15 PSI .. and is not the drain valve

check the regulator valve. the black cap must be pulled out slightly to allow it to turn. adjust that while watching gauge for change. there is also another pressure release near the pump be sure it is seated fully.

Does it shut off at 25 psi or just keep running and never build more pressure than that? Also, did this come on gradually or suddenly? Also, was it being used regularly when it happened or had it been sitting for a while?

Hi sstanl, Is your pump output or flow normal back to pool? if there is no water flowing through system you will get no expulsion of air or pressure reading on gauge. If pump is working then you probably have a clogged air release valve and maybe a clogged gauge. Just remove air relief assembly from filter top, remove gauge and clear any obstructions in parts. You should easily be able to blow air thru assy with gauge removed. Teflon tape the components and snug them back in their places. restart your pump and voila! air will come out when prime is established.

IF IT HAS BELTS THE BELTS COULD HAVE BEEN LOOSE AND SLIPPING.. MOTOR COULD BE GETTING HOT DUE TO TOO SMALL OF CORD OR SMALL GAUGE DROPCORD. I have worked on many makita compressors and have run-across this problem on a few of them. Your compressor has a check valve that is supposed to hold tank pressure after the switch reaches set pressure. There is an unloader valve built into the pressure switch that releases the pressure in the discharge hose after the unit shuts off. The unloader allows the compressor to restart with-out any pressure in the discharge line. If the brass check valve is leaking pressure back into the system, air will leak out of the unloader valve. Follow the discharge line to the tank and you will see the brass check valve. To test valve for fault, run the compressor till it builds around 80 psi and unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Remove the 1/4" hose connector from the check valve and check for air leaking out of the valve. If it is leaking you can order form www.toolpartsdirect.com. or call the makita 1-800 number. The price is about the same. Good Luck on your repair.
