Question about Uniden Boating
I installed my MMSI # on to my new Uniden 525 marine radio and its all working. I am getting my Position #'s from my garmin gps. All Good. BUT- I canot put chann. 70 on my radio. I sent a emer. call to my friends boat. All he gets is a beeping sound. We canot talk on chann. 70 He is not getting my position #. My 525 radio flashed chann. 70 but goes back on what ever chann. i had it on. I tryed tunning the knob Has 69 -71 No 70 ????
You can't "select" channel 70, nor can you talk on channel 70. Channel 70 is reserved for the exchange of digital data between radios.
And it is not possible to address an "emergency" (do you mean distress? or urgency?) message to an individual recipient.
Your radio is not allowing you to do any of these things because it has been (correctly) programmed to discourage you from doing things that would be illegal.
If you set up a routine call with your friend (or anyone else), you should find that once the two radios have completed their (almost instantaneous) exchange on Channel 70, they will both switch to whichever working channel you had selected, and he will get a beeping sound to tell him that there is an incoming call.
Sounds to me like both radios are doing exactly what they are supposed to.
