How do I know if the router supports VPN features?

  • Karuppaiah Oct 24, 2007

I am able to connect to internet. But if I try to connect to my office using Contivity VPN. It fails. Please let me know all the settings that are needed in the router.

  • Karuppaiah Nov 15, 2007

No. This problem is not solved. There is no restriction from my company side. Still I am sure that the problem is in router configuration. Anyways I do not want to spent time on that as I need to do my daily work using VPN. I have got a router from different brand (linksys) and it works.

Have you tried what pattersj78 suggested? That is the only way to find the proper settings, but if you're running into problems following his instructions, please let me know how far you got and what the problem is, and I can try to help you with more details about whatever you're hung up on.

You need two things, the settings for the VPN to setup your computer to connect, and you need to set your router to allow VPN passthrough, look for settings like IPSEC, PPTP, etc. in your router's setup.

Usually you can access your router's setup through a web page, to access this, Click on start, then run, type in CMD and press OK.  When the command prompt window comes up, type in IPCONFIG.  Note the Default Gateway IP address that is listed.

Open a browser like Internet Explorer, and type in that IP address into the address bar like this:

Then you will probably need a user name and password to get in, and while you are in there, check for things like port forwarding, applications, and VPN to find the settings that you are looking for.

If you are unable to locate this information yourself, I am available for remote assistance, all that is required is that you email me a request for assistance and request a PIN.  I am usually available during the evening hours (Central Time).

Unable to connect VPN using Arris Modem & Comcast Router

hi, mate check firewall settings of your modem/router. Then contact your IT administrator and he should be able to make changes to configurations for you. In most cases if server classify's your connection as unsafe it rejects it.

Printing with Dlink DI-624S and VPN connection

I am guessing this VPN is something work related and not a VPN you setup yourself?? If that is the case your company's VPN access will not allow you to pass from there network back to yours which is why you are unable to print to your local home printer when connected to VPN. You might could run it by your IT staff and see if they will allow connection and help you set it up. If not then simply email the docs to yourself and then print them out after you are finished using VPN connection.

Hope this Helps

DI 524 Router Not able to connect to office VPN on Wireless

I have the same model router at home, just checked the settings, you should be able to pass through the router with a normal vpn connection.

If you use a special VPN client, like a CheckPoint Secure VPN client, the router might block it. Also you might want to ask your office's sys admin if you are not blocked by the firewall or something similar. Your office's sys admin will prolly solve your problem since he knows your work network's configuration and setup and how to connect to it.
