2004 malibu parasitic battery drain after xm direct install

2004 Malibu with 6 disc in dash lan radio. i have installed the axxess D01 with xiah-gm2 harness and xmd1000 tuner. everything works fine, all xm functions and original radio/cd funtions are normal. Battery went dead after a few days of non-use. i appear to have a high parasitic drain when all is off of about 550 ma. if i unplug the xmd1000 it drops to about 180 ma. there is a constant 12v and 10v potential on 2 pins of the plug to the xmd. i tried updating the axxess firmware but it says it is the latest version. the wiring directions called for attaching an extra wire to an unswitched 12v supply which i did. i recently decided to connect this to a switched 12v but found the pin attached to the extra wire was also tied to the harness which had a 12v supply. i disconnected the extra wire with no functional change. any thoughts?

I believe the extra wires provided are for installing a relay to the vehicle's XM reciever. This turns it off.
If you have the D01 installed but the relay the relay - the factory XM system stays on and will drain your battery.

Check it out.

The firmware has nothing to do with drainage, unless the unit is factory defective.

To measure drainage remove ignition key, connect the amp meter between the battery positive wire connector and positive terminal.A couple of milliamps drainage is normal, and is caused by instruments, car stereo memory, ECU etc.
If you have 180ma with no amp with ignition off, that is already eccessive, and lets think that there is a problem on the harness.
Remove the amp fuse and see if you have drain by connecting a meter to read amps on battery, if you have drain with no fuse, then the 180ma problem is insulated to wiring harness before the fuse, with something shorted between the battery and the fuseblock rather than being the amp, or the radio itself.
Start removing more fuses , and open the wiring at different points , trying to locate the problem.
The amps should go up only when you turn key to the ignition point, also turning on the dash, if you get 550ma with key off and xmd1000 connected, then that means that the amp is staying always on, probably because the HU is keeping car amp and xmd1000 on (thesignal from the HU controls the on and off function). Try bypassing the HU, and try bypassing factory amp if present.

I got a 2007 malibu the battery won't stay charged & the alternator works fine the check engine light is not on

How long does it take for the battery to discharge ? over night, couple of days ? A battery discharging for no apparent reason while the vehicle is parked can be caused by an intermittent currant draw, such as a module waking up, or a continuous draw, such as a dome light or stuck relay or glove box light staying on.
?€¢
Some systems and modules such as OnStar?®, and regulated voltage control (RVC), if equipped, are designed to wake-up, perform a task, and go back asleep at regular intervals. Refer to Control Module References for the system or modules description and operation.

?€¢
Some systems and modules such as theft, or remote keyless entry (RKE) will wake up due to an outside input. Refer to Control Module References for the system or modules description and operation.

Need gm radio code 2000 malibu

When you disconnect your battery and then reconnect itagain, it disables the radio. This is an anti-theft protection for your carradio.
The enable your radio the activation code is in your vehicle owner's manual. Ifyou do not have this code you need to go to your vehicle manufacturer's servicecentre and get them to enter this code for you.

I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu that won't start. We have changed the battery four times this year. It runs fine and then I park it on my days off and then the remote won't unlock the doors, car won't start,...

Hello Vicky...
Your Malibu has what is known as a parasitic drain...It could be a stuck relay, trunk light staying on, or a direct short circuit.Something in the electrical circuit is not turning off when then ignition switch is turned off..
You will need to perform a parasitic draw test to determine the cause and correct the problem to keep the battery from draining,

Good luck...i hope this helps

I have XM radio in my chevy malibu. Worked fine

I believe when the antenna loses power it does not show it on the screen sounds like there might be a break in the antenna wire or simply came out of socket in the rear of the radio.

How do you remove the cd player from the dash in my 2005 malibu.

You DON'T...besides a built in security system, it most likely controls the function of OTHER things in the car...LIKE THE AIRBAG!
Take it to a car stereo installation shop and ask them to remove and install the radio you bought couldn't be more than $75 and it will save you alot of grief.
Good Luck

Bought a new cd player for my 2004 malibu maxx,

You will have to have the radio programmed to the vehicle (they have to do a service program to store the VIN in the new radio and configure the features to your vehicle..) it is a security feature. plus the 04 malibu maxx uses the GM LAN data com. and your radio is also your driver's information center.

The only thing that is left for you to do is to remove the stereo and then disassemble it and remove it yourself. A little daunting but needs to be done. Sounds like it went in wrong and then became jammed
