Connection is via parallel cable to printer port on computer. AC adaptor on scanner checked as well. No installation disk. Software installed from a previous use 2 years ago, lost disk since then.

Sometimes it is best to click start, then control Panel, and then Hardware. It will give you a choice of clicking cancel and inserting the manufactuer's disk at this point or allowing it to scan your computer to find any recent hardward hooked up. I assume this is a USB cable that goes from your scanner to a USB plug on your computer. If you have the installation disk, allow it to go through the procedure. Note: If it is USB and you plug it in, Windows should find it and ask if you want to install it. It will ask if you have the installation disk, or if you want to choose it from a designated location, or a list of hardware devices Windows has. Using the installation disk of course is the best way to go. If not let Windows show you the list. Try these. If it still doesn't work, there is another way.

Why doesn't scanner recognise usb connection

What type of device are you trying to connect to the scanner? The USB connection might not be working because the scanner can't register the device. It might also be a bad USB port. Have you tried a different device in that same port?

Acer Aspire 5733 Wireless connection lost

Check the wireless router and high-speed modem.

If the two are not powered on, or if the Ethernet cable connected the two is not completely inserted into both connection ports, you are unable to access the Internet on the Acer Aspire One laptop computer.

Activate the wireless Internet connection on the laptop computer.

Right-click the wireless icon on the desktop, then choose "Enable" from the pop-up menu.

Without activating the wireless receiver on the Acer Aspire One, the laptop is unable to detect any wireless network.

Select the appropriate network you wish to connect to.

Your computer may be attempting to connect to a different Internet connection, preventing you from access the network you desire. Right-click the wireless icon, select "Search for available wireless networks," then choose the network you want to access.

Restart the computer.

The system may have booted and failed to detect the wireless receiver. Restarting the computer corrects this issue.

hope this helps

Adding to ubuntu desktop

it could be that power isn't sufficient on the USB connection. you might need to plug in your AC adapter.

Also this drive has both FireWire and USB ports on it.

To get it working, make sure that the AC adapter is supplying power, and that USB is connected correctly, then re-boot.

Ubuntu should recognize the drive.

Command line tools that may help are

lsusb

this shows which devices are connected via USB to your computer.

dmesg | less

will help you look for the drive's identification and recognition by the computer, providing information such as vendor strings, capacity, and device assignments.

Good luck.

No connection recognition

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Hard drive not installed if os not found re-install hit any key to exit

This usually happens when your BIOS fails to recognise your hard disk or else it is not enabled in BIOS or else there is a loose connection which makes your computer unable to detect the hard disk, You could try and use your BIOS to check if your hard disk is detected. In case it is not, then check the connections of your hard disk or ask your technician to do that

Suggest that I check my cables, this is the very same problem...

Depending on how much you want to scan on a daily basis, we use Fujitsu's for our very high volume scanning needs (2,000+ pages per day) and then we use 15-20 different Cannon scanners for smaller jobs (60 to 500 pages per day) We have very little issues with either. I also should mention that we use a SCSI connection, not USB.
If you are looking for a reliable scanner, and you don't need color, I'd recommend a canon/fujitsu.

Thank you
