If you can get the top cover off by removing the 4 screws, you can manually turn the motor in reverse and pull the key out.

Makes grinding noise and does not pull the paper in or shred. I have pulled out all bits of paper stuck between the teeth. I'm afraid this thing is toast

This type of shredder can get clogged so badly, the material has to be removed with a utility knife. This is especially true if someone has tried to shred coated stock or, worse yet, credit cards. The noise you are hearing is the mechanism bouncing over clumps of residue jammed in-between the grinding "teeth".

My shredder won't shred

If the motor will not run, then probably there's paper clogged in the shredder. Turn over the shredder, after unplugging the power cord, and remove the papers.

If the motor will run but not shredding any paper, then the drive gear has broken teeth. This is not usually worth fixing.
Hope this helps.

My omnitech shredder OT-NXC8PA stopped working after clearing a paper jam. Seems the machine is running, but not sucking papers.

I think you just fried your gears. The motor is fine, but the gears that connect the motor to the shredding mechanism have had the teeth flattened up. No teeth on the gears = not shredding papers. The gears are made of plastic anyway.

Tried to clean some shredded paper in the shred area that was stuck, and now shredder won't work.

Disconnect the shredder Turn the top unit over to reveal the 'teeth' With a pair of needle-pointed pliers or cosmetic tweezers gently pick out the pieces of paper that you can see. You'll probably notice that there was some self-adhesive label material included (that seems to cause jamming more than staples!
Hope this helps.

How do I unclog my shredder? The papers keep getting stuck in the teeth and the shredder keeps stopping. I've tried pulling it out with my hands but it's not working. Bummer!

Have you ever "oiled" the cutting blades...all cross-cut shredders should be oiled regularly otherwise they clog up with the paper and debris generated by the cutting of the paper...the oil helps feed this material on thro into the shredding bin.

Sometimes spraying shredder oil on the cutting teeth wil work.

You should shred paper with a light weight machine oil poured on the paper to keep the cutting teeth working freely.

Good luck.

P.S. If this doesn't work then just take the head off and cleanj/lubricate any bearings you find.

There is paper stuck in the shredder. I've tried shredder oil and a tweezer.

Alternate reverse and forward several times. Graphite powder or pencil lead along the engaged gear teeth may help. There is probably a "wad of paper" underneath where you can't see it. Be brave and take the shred head apart - pay careful attention so you'll know how to put it back together.

My shredder keeps running and won't stop in on/auto mode

UNPLUG THE SHREDDER.

If this model has electronic eyes (optics) to control the auto-start/stop function and you oil the cutters, chances are the optics are contaminated with shredder oil. Take a cotton swab with a little alchohol and clean and dry the optics.

If you removed the top cover, it is a possibility that you disconnected the wires from the PC Board.

Does the shredder have the electronic eye to sense paper? Sometimes dust will collect on the sensor causing it to keep running.
