Question about ASUS COMPUTER INTL P5SD2-VM MBD MATX LGA 775-SIS 672 968 VGA FETH (610839154845) Motherboard
I installed XP sp2. I earlier had the same one and I used drivermax to store all the previously used drivers and imported them after re-installing XP.
But the problem is sound doesnt play. There is no volume icon on systray. I went to control panel -> sounds and audio devices. There in the "volume" tab, next to the speaker icon at the beginning it says " no audio device". And the two options below "device volume" and "speaker settings" are greyed out.
When I try to play it says: "Cannot play as theres a prob with ur sound device. There may not be a sound device installed, may be in use by another prog. or may not be functioning properly"
And the main thing is I have dual boot with Ubuntu and it works well.
Even before re-installing I had dual-boot and it worked ok.
Can someone please help me?
I had the same problem , i downloaded this and unpacked it in a new foler on my desktop and ran etup. then rebooted computer and i now can hear again!! sound works great!! driver scan tools!!! good luck!! richie

Check the device manager, as there will be an "unknown" device listed without the driver, or the sound device will have an error. Getting the latest driver indeed does not harm, but you might simply need to reinstall the driver. I do not know drivermax, but some of these driver programs backup and restore only the driver files (.SYS, .INF and .DLL), without all the support programs.
If the driver does not fix it, you can check this Windows XP sound troubleshooting guide.
