Question about Whirlpool 30" Self-Cleaning Freestanding Gas Range - White-on-White

1 Answer

Won't start Just wired in a brand new Whirlpool Nutid OV 9 oven and it will not work. Have checked the connections inside the oven and have 225 volts there (rating plate says 230 v ) but I think there is enough voltage to at least light up the display but nothing is happening. Am i missing something? Any suggestions?

I wired the oven to a different socket temporarily to check it and all the display lights came on immediately so I assume every thing else will work on a permanent supply. It is in fact a supply problem at the oven supply point and the electrician who rewired the house is coming tomorrow to solve the problem hopefully.

Hello Diana,
Their are a few things that should be checked. I know its going to be tough to check on a built in double wall oven but one thing that needs to be checked is if their is 240 volts ac entering the oven(i know the breaker is ok) but the connection at the back of the oven can burn, then the proper voltage wont enter the oven.
Another thing is a high limit thermostat thats inside of the control panel, need to checkif it has blown.
Last thing i can think to check is if 120 volts is at the clock, if not 120vac that explains the blank display

Whirlpool electric range super capacity 465 RF 377PXGQ0 SER# RH 4718582 the stove burners work nothing else works the control panel and oven are not working at all no lights at all... everything...

Ok
you must have a problem with you neutral leg .
Check to mak sure all 3 wires from power cord are securely connected to machine. Next make sure recepticle at the wall
has a good neutral. Use volt meter to check your recepticle.
You should get 110 volts between any top and the bottom slot.
No 110 volts means check house wiring or recepticle
Yes 110 volts means problem with neutral wiring in machine.(Not likely)
good luck

Keypad does not show anything. The lights work, the power is on, some buttons beep. The display shows no time or error messages

Ovens run on a 220 Volt circuit. That is two 110 Volt wires in reality, one from each side of the main. If one line is tripped only part of the oven will work. Check the Main for a tripped circuit. The range breaker should have a metal bar or pin connecting both halves of the breaker. If not it can trip on one side only. If you installed the "pig tail" yourself, turn off the main oven breaker and double check your connections. Black on each side (one may be red) and white wire in the middle. Neutral ground wire to metal plate of fixture.

If the power connections are correct and your panel still does not work it will probably need replacing. Do not open the access panel if it is under warranty (breaking a warranty seal will void the warranty) or you are not qualified to work on the wiring. It is better to call a tech without opening it. If you have opened it and then call a tech it will probably cost much more to fix as they will have to check ALL the circuits to be sure you have not damaged it.

Since it is a wall mounted unit be sure to check the wire for adequate slack and that it does not get crushed when the oven is installed. Metal Flex conduit is recommended (and may required in your area) between the wall supply box and the oven to protect the wire from shorting or damage.

Caution - 220 Volts can easily kill a person.

No response to touch pad. No display or lighting. Check breaker and replaced circuit breaker.

Inside the control panel is a bullet fuse. This thing melts when temp inside control exceeds safe levels to keep from harming electronics.

All the lights, display, etc. work on the oven but no heat

First and foremost check the breaker box. Ovens use 240 volts which is a double breaker in the box. Just to be safe I would click both breakers off and then back on together. If this doesnt work turn off the power and have someone help you pull the oven out and check your plug or connection. You may be dealing with a broken wire in the junction box due to the power outage. If you have a volt meter turn the power on SAFETLY and test if your getting 240 volts. If the connections are good (including the one from the juction box to the stove itself) and you are getting proper votage, unfortunatley you are going to have to get a new control. What happens is with only 120 volts going to the oven everything runs but your elements (they utilize the 240 volts to heat). You can tell time or use the timer but without your full 240 your turkey aint gonna cook. There is 120 volts coming coming from each of those breakers you checked in the garage. Bottom line is the chances of both elements going out at the same time are slim to none and I feel you are probably dealing with a broken wire.

Oven with an attitude

Check the lineator actuator motor. If you remove the top cover there should be a strip of metal stuck on the cover to put pressure on the gear to keep it from free wheeling down. These is a tiny button/nipple that sits in the hole in the top of the gear shaft. Lose it and you're sunk. Work with good light and watch the grease. Good luck

[ plate has holes in a circle patern in the middle of it ] . 2 gentle remove plate and expose the element .3 element has 3 srews .undo these and gentle take away from ovens backwall wall this will expose 2 wires that are connected to the element .3 very gentle unclip the wires from element . {grip the clips not the wires } connect new element and replace all screws and outer plate . this worked for me ....... remember to turn off the power to the oven before you go at it .
