Question about HP Compaq Presario SR1401NX (PS565AA) PC Desktop

High pitched sound with flashes from power button

I would describe the sound as the computer screaming. Its not emitting from monitor or speakers but the computer itself as soon as its turned on. This started seconds after putting in a second RAM card, but even after removing the card the computer is making the same sound.

Thank you so much. Your probably right that the motherboard is damaged. Guess its time for a new computer. Thanks again :) Guess that teaches us not to mess with working computers and RAM cards. Next time we'll leave it to the professionals :)

No I didn't remove any other screws and I don't think any of the wires are pinched. The only thing we did was put in a second RAM card, but when my roommate wakes up tomorrow I'll have him check the power supply. Thanks :)

Did you remove/replace any screws other than what it takes to open the case? The sound you describe sounds to me like the power supply is in distress, and the noise emminates from it. Check to see that you have not somehow pinched a wire somewhere.

Check you have seated the memory properly in the slot and that no other cards or components nearby have been dislodged in some way. The PC is beeping as its unable to get past its basic power on check due to something wrong with the motherboard. Did you change any other configuration at the same time?

There should be a way of resetting the BIOS which might solve this. If you have the motehrboard manual look up how to clear the BIOS by removing a jumper (little plastic switch thing) which clears the PCs basic configuration. It should be on the motherboard somewhere near the battery usually. This might clear the error but if not you'll just have to get it looked at by someone in person as the motherboard may have been damaged.

I have a Dell Latitude D630. When the laptop is switched on it emits a high pitched scream and will not boot. I disabled microphone in BIOS and machine boots fine. Re-enabled microphone and same probl

It sounds like a driver problem, normally the microphone is off on-boot-up. It should only be opened by a program wanting to use it.

Have you tried turning it off in the operating system, rather than the BIOS?

Download the correct drive here.

Sounds like you may have broke at least one of the lamps . The high pitch sound you are hearing is the high voltage that goes to it .

What does a screaming sound from the freezer mean?

Without hearing it, it sounds like a motor bearing that has gone bad causing the high pitched screech. If you can locate the source of the noise you might be able to oil the bearing, if that is it, with some light machine oil like 3-in-1. Best of luck

High pitch scream after i260 scans a few pages. Scanning stops

the main board in that scanner is going bad which is why its making the high pitch sound. Time to get another scanner or call Kodak and get a replacement scanner or go back to the store where you got it from and get a new one.

Screaming acer!

sometimes if the inverter board (the part that drives the backlight) has a cold solder joint on it, it can actually generate a high pitched resonating sound (aka a screaming squeal sound)

if it's under warranty, have the manufacturer correct the problem.

if not under warranty, retouch the solder points on the inverter board, or have a repair tech fix it for you.

Sound from monitor speakers distorted and high-pitched

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!
