Restarting while in use

I have a 2 year old 2720 that for no reason, keeps restarting while in use. When the unit restarts, it will continue with the trip. It will restart if you are in a trip mode or just have it on. I have tried another power cord. it does this whenever it wants to

I am experiencing the exact same problem. The unit restarts for no reason - but continues with the programmed route. Unfortunately, you barely even have time to read the text route before it restarts. Not sure if it is the power connection of the dc cord. Tried using the ac power cord "indoors" and couldn't duplicate the restart problem. However, the indoor mode does not simulate realtime operation, so I still wouldn't rule out a software/hardware glitch.

I tried another power cord and that was not the problem. I did do a firmwre update and that corrected the unit. It has been working well for the past 3 weeks. You should go to the Garmin website and download the latest FIRMWARE update.

Mine does the same thing. It seems to be programmed into 25% garmin units to get people to purchase new units or have $225.00 bill to pay to fix it.

The 4-prong negative contacts on my speaker/power plug were losing contact. When speaker was bumped or moved the unit would go off and sometimes restart itself, other times a movement of the plug was needed.   Remove the fuse and carefully slide the contacts off, clean, adjust then reinstall.   No more power failures!!

I went on the Garmin website and downloaded the latest firmware and haven't had the problem since. Good luck.

The problem is in the power cord connector at the unit. After a while the terminals in the cord loose tension and do not make good contact with the conductors on the back of the unit. Try cleaning the exposed condutors. If that does not help, a new cord will. YMMV
Good luck

The thread here at also suggested updating the StreetPilot's software/firmware and that seemed to solve things for me. One of the people at that thread mentioned that they needed to do a complete reset after the update (which can cause you to lose your customizations) but I didn't need to do that. I did the update about 2 weeks ago and it has been working fine since even on bumpy roads.

BTW, I had previously pulled apart my cord, too, and re-glued the connector pieces because I thought the connection was loose, but that did NOT help anything. The software update did the trick. I suspect that maybe some internal counter was overflowing and the update reset it or doesn't allow it to overflow anymore (just a theory, I'm a software developer :).

Mine just started doing the same thing. I took apart the speaker power cord, but don't see anything wrong with it. I thought I saw the unit turn off/on one time when I moved the cigarette plug back and forth, but as I said the wires are fine. I have the power cord apart right now and have 12 volts hooked up to the wires directly and the unit has been sitting here for 30 minutes without resetting.

I have Garmin nuvi 1300 GPS it keeps restarting. I've read that master reset can fix this problem. but how can I save all folders before restarting ?

a rebooting unit will most likely not be resolved by a reset. The problem is usually caused by a failed firmware or map upgrade. When the unit boots and can not find certain files or they are corrupted, the unit crashes. The unit must be flashed with a service firmware to gain access to the units flash drive so that the corrupted files can be replaced. Once access to the flash drive is obtained, the favorites can be backed up as well. Once the files are restored, then the unit can be flashed again with the factory standard firmware. There are widespread complaints regarding this phone's random restarts. The possibility is that you acquired a refurbished phone. You have two options in order to get rid of the random restarts at this point: 1. To trade in your phone. It would be helpful if it is on warranty 2. Obtain a new phone

Keep restarting every 5-10mins. was inf motherboard bad

Restarting loop in your computer can be caused various reasons.

1. Overheating of the processor.
2. Problem with your operating system
3. Motherboard failures

While restarting your computer you should be seeing the Sony logo and then the windows logo, post which you will go to your desktop background. If your computer is restarting immediately after the windows logo before loading windows desktop, then the problem can also be with the windows operating system. For this situation while your computer is restarting keep tapping the F8 key as soon as you see the sony logo, then choose safe mode and hit enter, This should load safe mode, in safe mode wait for some time and see if your computer is restarting. if not then the issue is with some recently made change or recently installed software or hardware. If it restarts even from safe then the issue is with the hardware of your computer

Computer restarting again and again

Ok, the first thing you need to do is when the computer is restarting and before you see the Windows logo screen press F8 on your keyboard. That will bring up the Windows boot menu. Arrow down with the arrow keys on your keyboard and choose to start the computer in Safe Mode with Networking. This way you can download the Sasser removal tool from the internet even though you are in Safe Mode. What this option means is that you are booting the computer with only the necessary drivers that are needed for the computer and any networking that you may need.
I hope this solves the problem. If not, please let me know.

Dfl-1600 sytem restart

Sounds like the firmware is looping for some reason. Try this to reset defaults:
Step 1: Make sure the unit is powered off.

Step 2: Press and hold the reset button located on the back of the firewall. While continuing to hold the reset button, power on the firewall.

Step 3: Continue to hold the reset button for 30 seconds after the unit is powered on.

Step 4: Release the reset button and the firewall will be at factory default settings.
