Question about Garmin StreetPilot 2720 GPS Receiver
I have a 2 year old 2720 that for no reason, keeps restarting while in use. When the unit restarts, it will continue with the trip. It will restart if you are in a trip mode or just have it on. I have tried another power cord. it does this whenever it wants to
The 4-prong negative contacts on my speaker/power plug were losing contact. When speaker was bumped or moved the unit would go off and sometimes restart itself, other times a movement of the plug was needed. Remove the fuse and carefully slide the contacts off, clean, adjust then reinstall. No more power failures!!

I went on the Garmin website and downloaded the latest firmware and haven't had the problem since. Good luck.

The problem is in the power cord connector at the unit. After a while the terminals in the cord loose tension and do not make good contact with the conductors on the back of the unit. Try cleaning the exposed condutors. If that does not help, a new cord will. YMMV

The thread here at http://www.gpsreview.net/garmin-streetpilot-2720/ also suggested updating the StreetPilot's software/firmware and that seemed to solve things for me. One of the people at that thread mentioned that they needed to do a complete reset after the update (which can cause you to lose your customizations) but I didn't need to do that. I did the update about 2 weeks ago and it has been working fine since even on bumpy roads.
BTW, I had previously pulled apart my cord, too, and re-glued the connector pieces because I thought the connection was loose, but that did NOT help anything. The software update did the trick. I suspect that maybe some internal counter was overflowing and the update reset it or doesn't allow it to overflow anymore (just a theory, I'm a software developer :).

Mine just started doing the same thing. I took apart the speaker power cord, but don't see anything wrong with it. I thought I saw the unit turn off/on one time when I moved the cigarette plug back and forth, but as I said the wires are fine. I have the power cord apart right now and have 12 volts hooked up to the wires directly and the unit has been sitting here for 30 minutes without resetting.
