Think you have this question resolved - but go into setup menu --> audio --> choose stereo or which ever audio mode is correct so that it outputs the audio correctly ie in the correct format for your tv or surround sound setup.

I have an Audiosonic 5.1 CH DVD player and followed the instructions to connect to the TV but can not get proper sound. I hear the background noises but not the main dialogue

It sounds like you have a type of surround sound or theater sound system going on, and you may be hooking up the surround sound instead of the main audio output.

Only background sound, no dialogue when playing blu ray

do you have a center channel speaker hooked up? Most dialogue in movies should come from the center channel.

DVD player only has background sound (songs, sound effects) but no dialogue when people are speaking

On 5:1 surround sound the voices are only directed to the center front speaker. If you do not have one, but your sound system has been set to surround sound (5:1 or 7:1) in its menus, this will happen. Use the menus on your sound system to set it to '2 channel' or 'Stereo' then all of the available sound on the DVD will be sent to the 2 front speakers.

Is there subtitles instead of the dialogue? Sorry, may be an obvious thing that you have already checked.

Sound on DVDs

It sounds like she has the player set to output 5.1 surround sound, but only has left and right channel speakers hooked up. Either change the dvd player to only send two channels or hook up a center channel speaker.

I assume the above problem is on all DVD's. Generally speaking, dialogue soundtrack is located in the Front Center speaker. From your description of the problem I would double check all the wiring to the front center speaker you have connected to your audio system. If there is no front center speaker, check to see how your audio system is set to handle the front center speaker . . . it should be set to "Phantom" or "none". On the other hand you're relying just on your TV speakers and you're not getting any dialog I would change, under the Settings of the DVD player, the Digital Out settings to PCM.

Emerson dvd player - background sound lauder than dialogue

Greetings surfjax,

If you will allow me to make an assumption, you do not have a 5.1 surround system connected to your DVD player. This is a common experience with users of a standard TV or stereo receiver if a movie is being presented in 5.1.

In a surround sound system the center channel speaker provides almost all the vocal tracks while the side channels will provide music and some background noises. You'll still be able to hear the voices in your side speakers, but it will be muted and over powered by music or sound effects.

Some DVD players allow you to "Downmix" the surround signal to stereo. You might want to look around your sound setup on the DVD player or check your owners manual.

Hope this helps.

check your connections. My PS2 does the same thing. The connection on the rear is touchy. Sometimes the sound will be garbled.
