Question about HP Photosmart C5180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

HP C5180 will not print in blues

I installed refillable 02 cartridges but the blues will not print. Got 2 new blues. Still printer would not print. I reinstalled non oem cartridges that I had taken out when I got the refillables but printer still will not print in blues. HP will not help unless I buy oem cartridges. Can anyone help me?

Try to run maintenance pages..go to your printer panel ..and choose maintenance..and print maintenance page..

Regarding your recent inquiry about the HP 02 cartridge print quality/missing color issue in your HP Photosmart C5180 printer, let's first make sure that the printer is firing all 6 cartridges correctly. Based on your problem description, it sounds like there either an air bubble in one of the printer ink lines or a portion of the PRINTHEAD* could be dry, so you should first perform a "Clean PrintHead" procedure from your printer's 'TOOLS' button on the control panel.

NOTE: If one or more the colors were previously dry fired during printing (i.e. if you continued printing using only a few colors to one, air may have been accidentally ingested into the ink lines between the cartridge(s) and PRINTHEAD. To recover from this problem, you may have to run the "Clean Printhead" procedure 2-3 times. Depending on your printer model, refer to the applicable video procedure:

As an option (to help conserve ink), you could just run the Self-Test Report (under 'PRINT REPORT' menu), this will verify nozzle performance and that each color is firing a solid band of color (i.e. you should not see any bands or missing lines in the pattern). This is also a good test to help isolate which color (or portion of the electronic PRINTHEAD*) may be causing the issue.

If a problem persists (poor print quality/nozzle misfiring/missing colors, etc.), then we suggest that you thoroughly review the steps outlined on our HP 02 support pages, including printer cleaning and service station cleaning. It is suggested you refer to printer manufacturer instructions first as the Inkjet411 procedures are provided for informational purposes only. A dirty service station can cause poor image quality and/or ink cross-contamination between different colors.

If this does not remedy the problem, then you may have a defective PRINTHEAD* in the printer (worst case scenario), unrelated to the refilled cartridges. As this printer writing system (found on 58 different HP printer models) is between 10 and 12 years old there is a very good chance that the PRINTHEAD has reached it's END OF LIFE.

*The HP 02 ink series printer models have an electronic PRINTHEAD within the base of the carriage assembly (responsible for pulling ink from the 6 ink cartridges and then firing the ink droplets onto the paper) - the HP 02 PRINTHEAD typically has a maximum life of approximately 25,000 pages (~15,000 page average). Hello. I have HP photosmart C5180 and I only need black colour to print some documents, I bought the original HP ink, but my printer says that I need to change expired colours too (pink, blue, cyan...) but...


Your model is a Inkjet printer working on HP TIJ 4.0 technology4. So it cannot work with one valid cartridge. You have to replace all of them to make you printer to work. This is what HP advices and highly recommends.

I just bought a new yellow ink cartridge, and when I put it in the printer says that the yellow ink is depleted. I changed the ink two times. What should I do?


If you are using off brand cartridges that are remanufactured (refilled), that may be your problem. I have had several HP printers and when I used refilled cartridges, it wouldn't print. I stay with genuine HP ink cartridges. Just my opinion!

Is it possible to use non HP ink in ths printer? Tried using "remanufactured ink", and concluded that this printer may be programed to block the use of NON HP INK.


It is always recommended to use genuine HP cartridges.
As if we will use the non HP or refilled cartridges, it will reduce the life of the printer.
And we will get an error "cartridge problem".

Printer problem


Quality refilled HP 02 cartridges should function in the same way that the originals did. If they are not, you've been had. These cartridges have kill chips on them that need replacing. Many "discount" refillers will sell you a cartridge with either the original spent chip or a very low quality replica. A reputable refiller doesn't make any money on the 02s but will offer them for convenience anyway.

New cartridges installed a week ago - been printing well until today and now nothing just blurred lines


the seems that the cartridge gone empty again or it may come low ink by default.

replacment/refill of cartridge is the only remedy for such problem.

How do I reset the ink levels?


We have an issue of missing or replace yellow cartridge. Please feel free to contact the HP support for replacement of the printer, if the printer is in warranty status. HP would replace the printer.
