Before my computer use to get really hot and then my computer use to shut down. I think there is a problem with the fan. Today when I switched it on the apple logo will come with the sound when it starts. And the turning circle will come. And then it will just stay like that until it becomes hot and shut down. Please help!

Hi,

there have been problems with MacBooks suddenly shutting down since the first Intel based MacBooks were made. It is called RSS. (Rapid Shut Down Syndrome). The cause of which I have learned in the following excerpt.
Since isolating the heatsink as the cause of the MacBook’s Rapid Sudden Shutdown (RSS), readers have isolated the specific part of the heatsink that is causing the problem, is actually the CPU thermometer itself. Essentially, the heatsink can expand during use, and comes into contact with the lead from the thermometer’s sensor cable. A short circuit results, and the SMC pulls the plug. Once the system cools down, the heatsink resides and the contact is broken. This also explains why sometimes you cannot immediately power the MacBook back on. The heatsink is still in contact with the metal lead.
Apple’s solution to this is to realign the location of the thermometer and cabling on the heatsink so that it does not short circuit. That is why the new heatsink is necessary. In the view of this writer, it warrants a public recall. Any user can produce easily the scenario that causes the MacBook to crash, even with pre-installed applications such as iLife.

My 2 cents,

Thanks

Laptop shut down

Sounds like it is getting too hot. Does it feel real hot when it shuts down? Is the fan and power supply working well and unobstructed so they get good air circulation?

My emachine has always had issues being slow sometimes freezing up and not shutting down...n e way I had it less than two years n its been my first computer in years so I did virus scans and all...ok today...

Loud fan noise and heat are symptoms of a dusty machine. Use canned air or a blower and dust it out. You'll want to have the machine open for this.

My gateway m520x will run shutt down

Sorry you are having trouble. Laptops run a little hot but I think you are right about the overheating. The cheapest fix is to get an underneath cooler from somewhere like Best Buy. They sell for around $20. To really fix the problem will require finding out why it is getting hot. Usually this is a program that is "hogging" the processor's time. There are programs available that will make your fans run faster and processor run cooler. Some are free. Some cost a lot. If the fan has stopped or slowed it needs to be replaced. If you are very patient you can attempt to replace it yourself but be aware many a laptop has died as a result of being opened improperly. My advice is take to a shop if under cooler does not help.
I hope this helps

Computer frequently shuts down unexpectedly/ fans very noisy

You might have a cooling problem due to a fan malfunction. It is not clear whether it's the power supply fan or the CPU fan; in the latter case you might also have a thermal coupling problem. The symptoms you describe certainly seem to point to such.

My advice would be to replace the fan (or the whole power supply; you might also want to purchase a "Silent Power" unit for quieter computing). If it's the CPU fan and you are comfortable with, or know anyone comfortable with a bit of PC servicing, you might want to also unmount the heat sink from the CPU and replace the thermal paste between CPU and heatsink. Clean the heat dissipator (the black metal grille over the heatsink) with hot water and a bit of soap and dry thoroughly, or wipe it energically with a dust brush, before mounting the new fan on it.

Laptop Compaq Presario F 700 overheats easily and shuts down

When the CPU overheats it shuts down (ie thermal overload) and won't startup until it has cooled down. This problem is caused by faulty fans (with bearing problems and may not spinning at normal speed) or the fan and heatsink assembly is clogged with dust.
Check the vents and fan and vacuum and remove the dust.

If the laptop is not placed on a flat surface there may not be enought air entering the vent on the bottom of the laptop.
To improve ventillation, you can stick rubber pads on the bottom of the laptop to increase the height of the laptop off the table. Better still purchase a laptop fan assisted base and place the laptop on this base, this provides further fan assisted ventillation.

CPU gets very hot amost immediately at switch on and liquid coole

yes its common, its called unessary maintence. the best way is install a biger electric fan or set multipal fans. these issues are really due to breakdown in processor and hardware. such as improper shut downs and start ups and how long the cpu been running. next check to see if your power supply is sufficient it maybe to much or little pending what you have plugged in ,o.s.
and connection time.

Computer shuts down

Hi,     I think you might have a cooling issue with the CPU (Main Chip). If the CPU is getting Hot it will shut the system down preventing damage. Check the  inside of the case and be sure that the fan for the CPU is functioning. You might also have your power supply checked as well...
