the thermocoupler fuse is what it is called by the way. i also saw that it could be the "power board" which could or could not be synonymous with the thermocoupler. anyway, again it is a common problem with these models. Scott Jackson, MS

SOURCE: Sony KDL-40S20L1 Flashing Standby Led, No pic, No Sound

Hi, If all else fails, try do a hard reset. You can verify from your manual, but in some units, this is merely unplugging the unit from mains for a couple of hours. Try again, if it still shows error codes (blinking lights) you probably have to seek the services of a qualified professional. Hope this be of some help/idea. Good luck and kind regards.

SOURCE: Flashing yellow arrow

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

SOURCE: DVD player will do nothing

Ok so I took the cover off to see if I could figure out the problem. Don't have a complete solution, but I did get somewhere. There is a silver cylindrical motor attached to the eject mechanism wheels on the VCR side. When I unplugged the tape from the back of the little motor, the progressive light goes out and the sound from the motor stops. When I manually turn the wheel/arm attached to the motor, the other wheels/gears turn and I can manually eject the tape. Also when I get to a certain point, my progressive light starts flashing like yours was. Anyway it all seems to be related to the little motor. I figure if you replace that, it would work. At least that is what I might try, I'll keep you posted.

SOURCE: VHS to DVD dubbing

You need to try to copy just some homevideo videotapes not movies. All them are copyprotected. Recording stops then copyguard is detected. It should be noted in the manual for this unit at page 47.

How do I get the DVD to record what is on the VHS tape not the TV?

You can record from an external component, such as a camcorder or VCR, connected to any of the Recorder's external inputs.
1. Make sure that the component you want to record from is connected properly to the Recorder. See page 14.

2. Press AUX repeatedly to select the external input to record from.
• AV1: Audio/Video Input mounted on back panel.
• AV2: Audio/Video Input mounted on front panel.
• DV: DV Input mounted on front panel.

page 37 from manual:
http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/01/15/LVT2016-001B.pdf

If this fails, try to disconnect the tv input cable and connect the vcr cable.

Progressive Scan

Try these steps:

Locate the output jacks DVD player. Sometimes they are standard female RCA A/V jacks, like those found on the front of many VCRs. Others are more tricky, having a small jack that looks like a stereo headphones plug. These camcorders require a special cord that converts a 1/8" stereo signal into RCA A/V male plugs.
  1. Using the proper cord, connect your PLAYER to the VCR's RCA A/V input jacks, usually found on the front or back of your VCR.
  2. Turn on your VCR and TV, so you can see the input from the camcorder. You might have to select "Input 1/2", "Line 1/2", or "VIDEO" depending on your VCR model. You should now see whatever is on your camcorder displayed on your television.
  3. Press "Record" on your VCR, then press "Play" on your camcorder. That's it!

Hello
This DVD player has no front panel display. Its front panel have ony two LED light indications, out of which, one is for power On indication and the other for p-scan [Progressive Scan] which will ight up when you select Progressive Scan function.
There are three push button switches, for Open/Close, Play & Stop.
It has only ON-Screen display system, which will be active only after connection the DVD player to tV. OK.

Vhs to dvd

Recording is disabled when the progressive scan mode is on. You have to reset the unit first.
Take out any disc or tape. With the unit on, hold down the Rewind and Fast Forward buttons together for 10 secs.
Then turn the unit off and on. It should work fine after that.

Recording dvd from vhs

you may not need a remote to dub a vhs tape to dvd.
look on the front of the recorder. see if there is a arrow showing dubbing vhs to dvd/ dvd to vhs. since you do not have the manual, you'll probably have to play around with it a while to figure it out. you will also need to know which format the dvd will record on. [dvd-r,dvd-rw,dvd+r,dvd+rw or ram] you can look up your recorder brand & model # online, then search for a manual you can download.
good luck.

Stuck in Progressive Scan Mode...please help!

There should be a switch on the DVD player that is makred 'progressive/interlaced.' You need to flick this switch til it says interlaced, as obviously your TV cannot view progressive signals. It may be on the back of the player, or under a flap on the front.
