Run a teat. Remove the vacuum line from the brake booster and plug off. Start engine and see if it idles normally. . Put your foot on the brake pedal and apply the brakes . If the idle is still normal replace the brake booster as there is an air leak in the diaphram.. The service light is probably recording misfiring and air fuel mixture problems.. run fault codes any way just to check it out .

SOURCE: Truck losing power and service engine soon light on

Like to other guy said, give it a tuneup. Also try SEAFOAM to clean carb up of slug. Also check to make sure the butter fly for the choke has not come loose, causing it the choke it down. Failed choke pull-off.

SOURCE: ROugh idle

there are 2 things that usually cause this, one is a dirty intake idle control valve and the other is hard engine mounts, I would say that both most likely apply to your car. try cleaning the intake with the following procedure from Ford.
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

SOURCE: my1999 madza 626 idles rough when its in drive or when i cut on

this could be a case of carbon debris in the throttle body plates and idle air control chambers...simply might just need serviced/cleaned...pull air intake off throttle body and spray with a good throttle body cleaner spray including the idle air ports. Ive also seen motor mounts cause this as this is more of a vibration felt in gear

SOURCE: 2000 Lincoln Navigator with rough idling and service engine light

i had the same trouble, there is a rubber boot under the cover on the top of the motor, it is coming from the egr valve, takes about 5 mins to repair and less than 5 dollars.

2000 ford expedition ,,rough idle in park..rough idle in drive,, sometimes dies..rpm's in drive at idle 400...replaced iac

Check the fuel pressure at the rail assembly, there should be a min of 40 lbs at the rails. Do you have any loss of power under a load? You may have an issue with your o2 sensor that is causing the ecm to send an improper signal to the engine ign/fuel map.

My 2004 Expedition 4.6 ltr. has a rough idle. It goes Up and down and will stall at stop signs and traffic lights. Where can I find the PCV valve?

PCV has nothing to do with drivability or any thing else pertaining to engine performance. It regulates the air flow out of the crankcase to burn blowby gases from the rings. It never needs to be replaced, just cleaned every four years. That is if you have no hose leaks.

Buy some CRC Throttle Body Cleaner and follow instuctions.
I wouldn't even run engine, just spray and clean throttle plate.
Plate is sticking open and throwing TPS Voltage off at idle. PCM is trying to figure injector pulse, with wrong info, thus rough idle.

My 2004 ford expedition check engine light is on,and reading bank 1 and 2 changed them and it still is idling rough,so someone suggested to change the idle control sensor what a waste of $103 anything else...

what are the codes? Try disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour. Then reconnect so the engine computer can relearn the strategy and the changes of parts you made. It will run rough for 10 miles or so.
