Whirlpool toploading washer doesn't spin

Whirlpool toploading washer doesn t spin. I can smell light burning smell so I unplugged the unit. I attempted to turn the drum by hand but it was unsuccessful? Do you have any suggestions before I take it apart?

My whirlpool ultimate careII quiet wash washer stopped working in mid cycle. It won't agitate, drain, spin, fill with water, nothing. The washer makes a humming sound and an electrical burning smell.

If your smelling electrical burn.. It's most likely to be the motor is bad.. Or just stuck, new washers made today are DC motors and contain a circuit board in the motor.. And are not serviceable.. Just replace them..

Will not spin and has a burning rubber smell

sounds like a loose belt, or worse, a stuck pulley..

tip the unit back about 30 degrees, with power off, and unplugged, and inspect the belt..I suggest something solid to hold it up(not your hand or someone elses)...and see if you have free play there, or it's frozen

Smells like burning electrical

Its sounds to me like maybe the belt is slipping that will smell like something burning.

Whirlpool washer stopped spinning...then started back, but it smells bad like burning rubber?

An overheating motor can switch itself off. When it cools it will restart. And overheat again.....If the motor is hot to touch (unplugged, of course) That would verify the problem. Good luck......Nomess

Whirlpool top loader won't spin

If you are lucky you need a set of clutches about $45. If you are unlucky you would need a transmission.

Since it spins after you help it, I am guessing clutches.

Whirlpool noise

Ok can you take the front panel of the washer off easily?

If you can look for the motor pump assembly. Start the washer with no load, turn the water level down to the small and fill with water when it goes into agitation does it make the noise? if not turn timer to spin and see if motor makes the noise.

One other thought, maybe the smell is coming from the dryer?

Let me know. I wont be on line again until Friday Sorry
