TV - only single, linear image with sound

Hello fixya,

Stumbled on your website and am hoping you can help me.
I bought a TV from KMart in May 2005 (hence warranty expired May 2007). It has always worked well until last week. I turned the TV on and i only saw a single, vertical line on the screen. The sound is working fine.

Can you tell me how i can fix it?

Re: TV - only single, linear image with sound

Vertical line on the screen is due to problem in horizontal deflection coil circuit

plz check

  • connector loose which is going to deflection coil mounted on crt.
  • loose contact or print break from flyback to def.coil.
  • capacitor defective going to deflection circuit.
  • if you are not tech person call tech. to fix it
  • it is not a major problem & can be fixed at your home.
  • hope this will help.
  • good luck.

Hello alaws,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

Your issue will require some diagnostic from your local TV Repair Shop. In today's market, unless you find a repairman that does this work for a hobby, the cost of the parts and labor is higher than the value of the TV.
It may be in your best interest to research the LCD and LED TVs at your local WalMart/KMart/Best Buy.

Have a great day!

I do not have a remote and the tv is in the child lock mode and won't turn on, what can I do?

try unplugging it after turning it off and leaving it saeveral hours( overnight maybe) then replugging nesxt day. This is a hard reset and should help you out of the dilemma. Get a universal remote the code for your TV is one of these.

Magnavox 0 0 5 4 ,1 2 5 4 ,0 0 3 0 ,0 1 7 9 ,0 1 8 7 ,0 0 9 6 ,0 0 2 0 ,0 1 8 6 ,0 3 8 6 ,0 0 2 4

We have a disney cars tv no dvd 13 inch w no remote can we get one for it

You can buy a universal remote at Walmart or Kmart or wherever you shop. There will be a chart included with the remote that will give you codes to enter that match the manufacturer of the TV. Expect to spend @ $10. I hope this helps and good luck!

I have a 27

Hello pwilkers,This sounds very much like a vertical linearity/size problem; a malfunctioning coupling capacitor, a malfunctioning yoke transformer, or a problem in the vertical circuitry can cause this. I would suggest taking the TV to a repair shop because to troubleshoot this problem you will need a signal/pattern generator, an oscilloscope, a capacitor/inductor analyzer, and a multimeter. If you have these pieces of equipment this task becomes very easy, if not it is best that the problem be taken care of by a TV technician. I hope this helps,Thank you,Shuttle83

Help tv no sound

Hi There,
Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds like your sound module or IC needs replacement. Hooking the surround sound won't help because you have no Audio Output. I hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Go into AUDIO settings in the MENU and make sure the settings for EXTERNAL SPEAKERS are turned OFF and INTENAL SPEAKERS are turned ON. Hope that helps: )

Without knowing the specific model, I can only venture that somehow the Parental Lock has been engaged. Often to disable/disengage, a password/code of some sort is required with entry through the remote.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Game Mode

Had the same problem. You have to get a universal remote that matches the tv. Bought it today at Kmart (Walmart has it too). Only set me back $10-11 bucks and most def. worked. Set it to the tv and hit the Input button, GAME mode came right on. Here is what I posted in another forum on here.

I had the same problem until today. I bought the same tv and went to Kmart/Walmart. I bought the RCA Universal remote (RCR412SI). Only set me back $10-11 bucks. Has like 3-4 ways to set the tv, dvd, sat-cable and vcr/aux. Even allows several tvs I believe. Couldn't set it at first, then there was the other method where the remote did the search. Worked! Here is the device,

I hope this helps everyone out. If you have the 6419TC 19" TV, it will work, just make sure you read
the directions and be patient. Will save you money.

Hello bouloulou, Well let me tell you what you have is a loss of Vertical Linearity. This could be cause by a power supply issue or by inproper filtering of the dc voltage used to supply the vertical section of the TV. There used to be a control which allowed you to adjust this along with Vertical Size which controled the bottom of the screen. These days the signal processor chip takes care of this along with a few capacitors. I woould suggest that if you do not have a background in electronics that you take the set to a shop for repairs, If you do have a background in electronics, get a schematic for this set and the use your multimeter set to DC volts to measure the DC levels in the vertical section of the TV. Also you will need an oscilloscope to measure the ripple voltage on the DC power supply the schematic will show you how much ripple is allowed. I hope this helps. Thank you, Shuttle83
