Question about Singer Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Singer 6268 electronic machine (25 years plus. I was sewing and heard a loud crunch (thought I broke a needle but didn't) and part of fabric pulled downh through the needle plate. I changed pulled out the fabric, changed the needle and proceeded to sew but it would not sew...the upper thread will not loop around the bobbin case (it is the drop in bobbin that winds in the case...I love it and would not want to go back to winding bobbins the traditional way other machines do, though I understand they no longer make this bobbin case). Have I messed up the timing or broken something I can't see? I hate to have to take it for repair as I have 15 costumes to make in a matter of days!

The nylon timing gear may have broken up or the top gear amy have broken up, you need to get into the top and have a lokk and also under the bobbin case area in the bottom of the machine, iof thge gears have broken you can buy the gears quite cheaply and fit them yourself, I do have full instructions to retime the machine.

Needle dragging in bobbin casing. How do I adjust needle shaft?

Basic Tips for All
  1. Always turn the handwheel TOWARDS you (counter clockwise) as turning it in the opposite direction (away from you, clockwise) may knock the timing out requiring repair from a service center.
  2. Always be sure your presser foot is in the DOWN position before sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will cause your thread to tangle and your bobbin to jam.
  3. Change needles regularly (after 16 hours of use) as dull/weak needles can cause damage to your machine and fabric. Only use SINGER needles on your SINGER sewing machine.
  4. Always be sure you are using the correct bobbin for your machine. Class 66, Class 15 and Class 15J bobbins look very similar. However, using the incorrect bobbin class in your machine can cause damage.

I keep breaking my upper looper, what am I doing wrong?

it's possible that the fabric and the needles didn't
work togeather, the correct needles depend on what
fabric your sewing. could have been the tension
was too tight. or the needles could have been
bent or damaged at the point of the needle, I suggest changing the needle very often, sew on a
scrap piece of the fabric to see how the serger
reacts to the fabric, needle and the thread.
it could be a design flaw in the machine. or there is something wrong with the upper
looper adjustment or timing, if there is another
repair shop that you can go to , if there is I suggest going to it.
do you have a manual for the serger? if not send me
a comment and I'll see if I can find one for you.

Shuttle hook not catching thread

it's possible that when you broke the needle it caused the machine to go out of time & only a sewing machine repair shop can retime the machine

Top thread from spool somehow gets out of the needle when sewing. Sometimes top thread breaks; other times it just escapes the needle. I redid threading from top and from bobbin to see if that would fix....

Try loosening the tension and pulling a longer string of thread. Also, if the needle is not at the highest point, when you start sewing, the thread will pull out.

Model 6408. machine jams with a loud noise (belts slipping !!) and bend's needle, as if fabric is beeing pushed to the rear before needle clears fabric.

Go to Singer at singerco.com and you can buy a hard cover instruction manual for $15.. Your needle shaft may be bent so that it is hitting the presser foot.

Singer 6268, needle timing advice

I have a Singer Sewing machine, Model #6268. The threads have knotted up on the underside of the material. When I finally was able to pull it all out, it caused the needle to hit on the bobbin plate (hope that is right). Now the needle is bending, not going through. How can I adjust it back as it supposed to be? I have had this happen before, but it cost way too much to get it repaired. And I still don't know why this happens (the threads getting tangled).
Thanks!
