Question about Canon EOS-AE-1 35mm SLR Camera

1 Answer

Camera battery is dead and was just bought a week ago

After replacing the primary battery a few months back, I tried to use the camera and both the flash and the camera would not work. I replaced the flash batteries with new ones, but it still would not work either on or off the camera. I replaced the camera battery and strength test button indicated a strong power source. However, a week later I tried to use the camera and the test button gave no beeps at all, and I know that my previous batteries have lasted at least a year before needing replacement. I have checked all contacts and other parts and can find no reason why it should not work.

Any help will be appreciated.

If the contacts have been cleaned in the battery chamber, check the lower contact post - it's spring loaded and often gets stuck and doesn't make good contact with the battery. A little WD40 usually will free it up. Your batteries are probably still good.

The light meter is not working on my Pentax K1000

there are three different possibilities. remove three screws, take off bottom cover. remove three screws of battery holder, lift to see if the battery wire has corroded or broken off. solve by extending wire and resoldering. the next involves removing the top cover to see if the meter coil is dead,if this is the case it needs to be replaced, or there is a broken lead somewhere. usually it is cause no. 1.

Hello! I've got a Minolta X -700, it's pretty old, but I got it to work a few months ago just by replacing the battery. Now, when I turn it on and pull the advance back, the shutter still...

This is an electronic failure in the cameras shutter release mechanism. Capacitors will need to be replaced and circuit boards need to be cleaned of the electrolytes that have leaked onto them. This can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

I have a 35 mm canon ae-1 camera. I havent used it in a while and I was just trying to load some film but I cannot get the wind lever to work, and therefore also cannot use the shutter button. I am not...

Canon AE-1 will not work without a battery,so if your battery is low then most likely that is your problem.Battery compartment is located on the front of the camera.Replace the battery with a brand new one, used batteries even though they will read the right voltage(6 volts)will not have enough amperage to allow proper cycling of all moving parts.Buy a good quality battery like eveready, duracell, etc.hope this helps.

Image through nikon f80 dark and cloudy

I'm unfamiliar with the F80 but on models like the f65 and f75 the viewfinder screen has an lcd overlay and when the battery is exhausted or removed the viewfinder goes dark and blurry.

Looking at a picture of the f80 it looks like it's just an update on my f75 so it strongly suggests that you just need to insert a fresh battery. The lcd does draw power from the battery even with the camera turned off.

I hope that you found my answer useful, once you've tried another battery to confirm what I've suggested I'd appreciate it if you return the favour by rating my answer.

Pentax MZ-60 very ******* batteries

the camera has a short circuit. if the camera got wet or was in very high humidity the flex circuit is shorting . take or send your MZ60 to a camera repair shop for an estimate. if the camera has liquid damage they most likely will not repair it.
however if it's just a component part it's fixable.
the battery drain will worsen as the short increases.

Nikon F5

It's possible that there was some existing fault with the camera that led to it being disused. The lack of use led to the batteries leaking.

I suggest you find a pro camera dealership nearby and ask them to refurbish the camera. The pro stores will normally be able to rent you a temporary replacement.
