Question about Canon PowerShot G7 Digital Camera

Canon Powershot G7 just wont turn on... for no reason I can tell.

Hi,My Powershot G7 was fine but the battery needed charging. I took the battery out and charged it as usual. When I replaced the battery into the camera, it simply would not power on.I have tried taking out the SD Card and closing the door and still no. I removed and replaced the battery countless times and still no. I got a new battery and still no.I metered the battery and found it was outputting 8.4v which sounds like its fully charged.Still I simply cannot get the camera to switch on.I was hoping there might be some reset button combination... or something, but cannot find anything anywhere.Unlike some people with this problem, I have not had any symptoms before this, I just switched it off one day and then it wont switch back on again.Any thoughts?

I would assume that if a loose screw had fallen off inside and shorted something then I probably would hear a rattle when turning the camera over in various different directions.
With mine, the only thing I can hear inside is most probably the orientation sensor... certainly its a noise it always made and it sounds like a small pendulum switch (ie always makes the same noise) rather than a small screw bouncing around inside. It's not  a sharp enough or random enough noise for a loose screw.
I would say this is not likely to be a camera with a loose screw fallen off inside.
Thanks for the suggestion though, and I'd like to hear any further suggestions.

Usually you can't hear the loose screws in these when they fall out and short out the camera, although many people will say you can. When you have no power on a G7 or a G9, it is most always that loose screw problem. The screws inside should be corrected at the time of the repair so the problem doesn't happen again later. The site that is great for help with the Canon Powershot Camera problems is: www.camerasandparts.com They are great with these and that is all they specialize in. I would see if they can help, they're amazing if you need a hand with the Powershots, plus they do that no power correction on all G7 and G9's they service which I like. Good luck with it

Cannot turn on the camera even change a fully charged battery or through USB cable

Its not a problem with the battery, the G7 and the G9 have a problem where a loose screw inside the camera shorts it out and causes it to not power. The repair service is about $85 total for a new part, installation and return shipping of the camera!

Did you recently purchase this model, or have you owned it for a while? Has this happened to you before or is this the first time you have experienced this issue?

I can tell you, as an Avid Nikon user..which isnt much different from Canon since they are huge competitors of each other..that this might be a defective battery. I'd recomend contacting the manufacturer or seeking on their website, if they list it, as I know nikon does, and see if there are a select serial number and manufacturer dates on a battery for your model. Nikon had this for their D50 and you might also want to make sure the same thing didnt happen to yours..chances are they might of shared the same OEM battery..

let me know how that goes. We can work on other steps as well...

Hi, could you tell me where the shutter timer is on the Canon Powershot G7? John

Press down-arrow on the cursor pad (marked with a one-handed clock). Use up/down to select the delay. Start the self-timer by pressing the shutter release button.

That's a loose screw issue inside the G7 and the G9 that is common. The best place I know to get help for that one would be camerasandparts.com They just specialize in the powershots and they are awesome if you need help with one of these. Best of luck, they have your exact G7 no power problem right there on their site. I hope that helps.

Cannon G7 need help

Hi
Had the same problem a few months ago. There was a high pitchedwhisltle and I think the screen said "lens fault.turn off camera" or something similar.Bought a G9 to replace as the 7 was out of guarantee but sent the 9 back to the e-bay reseller as it was obviously secondhand with grit around the lens ring and the viewfinder.Ebay never again!.So 3 months ago ago I tried the G7 again with a fresh charged battery before I consigned the camera to the loft.I noticed that each time i switched on the whistle and message was there but the lens extended slightly further each timeso I kept rebooting until the lens was fully extended.Turned the camera off and on again and everything was back to normal. It seems that this may be Canons protocol when a camera goes back. Its been absolutely fine until today. It wont boot up at all.I have tried 2 fresh charged batteries and its dead.Any ideas anyone?

My Cannon G9 digital camera wont power up even though I have a fully charged battery?

This is usually from a loose screw inside the camera, a screw inside the camera can come loose and cause a short which is very common on the G9. If you go to: www.camerasandparts.com all they deal with is service for the Canon Powershots. They're great if you need a hand with one of these and they automatically do the no power correction on the G7's and the G9's they service which is nice. They are about the least expensive out there at $89 and they include the service and the shipping back. The best part, they do excellent work which is a must for me. Hope that helps you some.

Canon g7

This is a common no power problem on the G7 and the G9, camera most likely has loose screws inside. If you need to have one of these serviced, try this site: www.camerasandparts.com They just service the Canon Powershots exclusively and they are terrific for help with these. Even though many stores will tell you the camera can't be fixed or it will be too expensive, don't waste money on a new camera. The G7 is an amazing camera and for $89 that site fixes the problem, does the internal correction so the screws don't get loose again, they include the repair, parts, labor and shipping back all for $89 all in, a tough deal to beat and they do amazing work on these Canons. Good luck to those that have this problem, that site is terrific if you need to revive one of these cameras with this no power problem.

Powershot G7 Camera won't turn on.

Same issue happened on Saturday. Only difference was the lens cover didn't completely shut when I tried to turn it off. I turned it on then off again and the cover shut....but it wouldn't turn back on. I fully charged the battery, but nothing. Tried two different batteries.

I was going to take mine in today to Wolf Camera in CO where I bought it.

Note that the camera was fully cleaned and and a new lense added less than a month ago by Canon (through the warranty program through Wolf)

Thougths?
Did anyone get any feedback?

It may be the SD memory card causing the problem. I just bought a G7. When I turned it on without an SD card, no problem. I put it my old cheap SD card and it wont turn on. I take out the memory card and battery, then insert the Canon SD card and battery and turn it on, no problem.
Hope this helps someone.
