Hi, The first thing to check is the thermal safety located in the back. UNPLUG the dryer. emove the rear panel and locate the fuse on the blower housing middle left. It is white and in 1/4" wide and 3" long with twowire going to it. You can test continuity to it. If it has continuity, it is ok. This is
the most common problem. If II can assist you further, please let me know.

Thanks
Vic

What will cause my maytag dryer to throw the breaker when i try to start it

Not a dryer pro but if the dryer is on a circuit that's already loaded up, or is overloading your current one (amps wise) that could cause it, and especially if the breaker is weak. Could be shorted capacitor or drive motor, or heating coil short situation. (wire melts, ends up shorting against housing). If the breaker checks out, suspect the heater element next, motor last, I'd say. Good luck. Maytag Dryer Trips Breaker

MY MAYTAG MDE9700AYW WILL NOT TURN ON

Are you getting power at the console? Also, check to see if one of the breakers has not tripped. Dryer runs on 220v and you may have tripped one breaker that will show power to the unit but won't let it start.

Electric dryer trips circuit breaker after about 5 min when running at high heat not sure of model number

Most likely culprits are the thermostat (or a short in the wiring related to the thermostat) . I am assuming it is a normal current breaker and not an earth leakage breaker. It seems likely to be the thermostat as that probably switches after a few minutes (whereas the element which is also a common failure is on from the start of the cycle, so if there was short in the element that would take the breaker out immediately).
Does it do the same whatever heat setting you select?
If you switch it back on before letting it cool to much does it trip sooner?
If the time it takes to trip changes when you change the heat setting that would point to the thermostat/wiring too.

I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

Hello: I have a Maytag MDE9700AYM that was purchased three years ago but has been installed for less than one year. After the unit runs for 10-20 minutes, the circuit breakers trips off. Otherwise the...

It's possibly the circuit breaker rather than the dryer itself. Usually when it trips, it is overloaded or shorted. Overload can be a result of a loose connection or a bad heating element, when you remove the old breaker, see if it has some noticeable burn/corrosion marks where the wire is screwed down, I think replacing the breaker will fix the problem. Hope this helped Tim

sounds like your heating element has opened up it was probably partially shorted to the case and this was causing your breaker arcing condition previously

My new maytag centennial electric keeps tripping

Hi Matt
I'm not sure that swapping out the breakers to higher rated ones will give you a solution so I'll throw in 2 cents to see if my advice holds true. Let's start by asking this. Is the appliance "rated" at 220 volts at 30 amps per leg. I assume this from your post as to what it has been rated. Next - How long is the "run" of wire from the junction box to the outlet where the appliance plugs in? This usually does not matter in most households but if the run is of significant length it may need a larger gage wire to support the current draw of the appliance. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, are the lugs and wire connectors tight at the outlet, the plug, and the breaker box. A loose connection will ramp up the current fast. This is assuming the first two items were met. Tell me if any of this helps and we'll work it out from there.
Thanks.
Len

Dryer tripped breaker--shotgun blast sound

You may have a wire burn off the element and fall down to the base frame and cause a direct short. Turn you breaker off, remove the front and inspect for such a scenario.
