the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: transferring mini dv to pc hard drive

You will need a firewire cable and a firewire input (IEEE 1394 port) on your PC. If you don't have the port on your PC, you'll need to buy a peice of hardware for your computer.

SOURCE: How do I transfer the mini DVD to Movie Maker

With your Recorded DVD-R Disc "Finalized", and in the DVD player on your computer, you should be able to browse to your videos with Movie Maker.

In MovieMaker, on the left side where it lists:
Movie Tasks
1. Capture Video
Capture from Video device
Import video . . .

You want to "Import Video", by clicking that and browsing to the DVD-R to find what could be MPG files, or VOB files. They're both MP2 DVD format video and audio files.

Tip: Right Clicking in the Import Video Dialogue Box where the files are listed and selecting View / Thumbnails, will present a view of the scenes in each video.

SOURCE: FireWire for camcorder mini dv

Go to this link. Click on "Frequently Asked Questions" and then click on the appropriate link (#4). Basically, once the firewire cable is connected, make sure that the camcorder is in the playback mode, is turned on, and you see "DV IN" on the LCD. If all that is happening, your computer/software should be able to "see" the camcorder and download the video.

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV720 Digital-8 Digital Camcorder. How can I transfer the video from these tapes to DVD? The cabling seems too old school to link up to my computer in order to burn a DVD.

This model has iLink: IEEE 1394 firewire port. If you don't have a firewire card, you can probably find one pretty cheap on the internet (try ebay).
Windows has movie maker, which when the camera is connected, will allow you to capture the video from the camera on the comptuer, although there is no DVD burner software at least on the XP version (not sure about Vista). I use Nero for the whole process: capture, edit, burn to DVD.

How do I transfer a recorded tape to my computer

You need IEEE (Firewire) or "DV" cable to transfer video from the camcorder to your computer. The connection is "DV" and is located on the front of the camera next to the "S" port. The marketing for this camera was deceiving...most customers thought they could hook up the USB to their computer and upload video...well you can't

DirectX diagnostics The first thing is to run the above program - its in win/sys32 and call dxdiag.exe - this may shed some light on your problem - also look in systems info in the accessories folder (particularly for any problem devices) You haven't told us what program you use play back or where your files are stored. Try using a different player.
