I purchased a new 20" TV with bulit in DVD player and when I plugged it in. All I get from the TV portion is NO SIGNAL. However, the DVD player works fine. Can you please tell me what is the problem?

All DVD players will have have cables in the back that will also be plugged into the tv
1 is a power cord to wall
The others are for audio and video there are 3 types or ways to wire a DVD player
it will be a coax cable that i wide and stiff & the connector screws on, that is for video, and it will require 2 other cords that are red & white for audio. They just push in

you have a set of 5 cables that are colored green blue yellow for video red white. For audio these just push in

you will have an HDMI that is one cord with a wide connector that will push in
if you can see the back of the tv you can follow the cable from the DVD player to the back of the tv and the tv will have a label very near the connector indicating which input the DVD player is on.
If you cannot see the back of the tv; you will have to check to make sure your cables are securely plugged in.
turn off the dish network device
Turn on the DVD player and wait about 20 seconds, press play this way there is a signal or picture going to one of the inputs.
turn on the tv, "smart tv's" will know that a signal is coming in and they Adjust to the input that is sending a signal. If yours does not do that
press input wait 20 seconds each time you press it until you see a picture from the dvd.
if that doesn't work the your problem is the cables
if your press input and the tv screen says dvd; but your cables are plugged into another input like AUX or game, then you have to chose AUX or Game on the screen to view the dvd.

It looks like you've got a plain, old "480i standard definition" TV. The inputs
on it will likely be limited to S-Video, RF Coaxial (cable) and one or
more sets of "A/V" inputs that consist of 3 jacks - 1 each yellow, red,
and white. Without knowing the make & model of the TV I can't be sure which / how many inputs it has. It looks like you're trying to play a DVD. Most DVD players only offer A/V type connections - again - you didn't provide this info so I'm forced to guess. The Yellow jack (on TVs and disc and tape player / recorders almost always provide the higher quality A/V jacks) is for the video signal and the Red & White are always the left and right stereo audio jacks. The cables used to connect devices to the TV have the same colored plugs to make matching them up easier than if they were all the same color. If you accidentally connected one of the red or white audio plugs into the yellow video jack, you will not have a picture. Check BOTH ends of the cable - at the TV and at the DVD player. All three plugs must be connected to the corresponding colored jack.
If it is connected properly, your DVD player might be one that was a more expensive type that offers "480P Progressive Scan" output along with the standard "480i interlaced scan" output. The 480i output was called "standard definition" and 480P was called "enhanced definition" and provided a better picture. If your TV only supports 480i, it will not be able to display a 480P signal. You will need to check the DVD Player manual to find out how to return the output to 480i again. If you no longer possess the manual, you may either Google it or provide the brand and model here so that we might take a look for it for you.
In the event that you are using RF coax (cable) to get the signal from the source into the TV, you may just be trying to watch it on CH4 instead of CH3 (or vice-versa). Try changing the channel up or down one from where it is to see if the picture comes in.

You did not mention exacly what model of DirecTV receiver you have, so first of all, I will just give you the generic instructions for connecting that device to your TV using an HDMI cable connection.
DIRECTV CONNECTION TO TV
Make sure your TV and DirecTV receiver are turned off before making any cable connections.
Now connect the COAX cable from the satellite antenna to the COAX IN jack on the back of the DirecTV receiver.
Now connect one end of an HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT jack on the back of the DirecTV receiver.
Then connect the other end of that HDMI cable to the HDMI INPUT 5 jack on the back of your TV.
See page 10 of your TV's USER MANUAL for a detailed labelled diagram of the rear input connections on your TV.
If you want to test your system at this point, you can. Just plug in the power cords to the DirecTV receiver and your TV, then turn them both on.
In order to see the output from the DirecTV receiver, you will need to select the INPUT 5 input mode using the INPUT button on your TV remote.
See page 11 of the TV manual, button number 7 on the remote control button layout diagram.
Keep pressing the INPUT button repeatedly until you see INPUT 5 on the TV display screen.
At this point you should be getting an input signal from the DirecTV Receiver on your TV.
That completes the DIRECTV to TV connection portion of the system hook-up procedure.
SONY DVD PLAYER CONNECTION TO TV
Your Sony DVD player should have come with an S-VIDEO cable and set of RCA cables (yellow / red / white ) included.

Connect one end of the S-VIDEO cable to the S-VIDEO OUT on the back of your SONY DVD player.
See page 8 of the SONY DVD Player manual.
Then connect the other end of the S-VIDEO cable to the S-VIDEO INPUT 2 terminal on the back of your TV.
Now take colored RCA cables and one end of the red and the white cables into the LINE OUT (AUDIO L / R) red and white jacks on the back of you SONY DVD Player.
Then take the other ends of those cables and plug the red and white plugs into the INPUT 2 (AUDIO L / R) red and white jacks on the back of your TV.
In order to see the output from the Sony DVD Player, you will need to select the INPUT 2 input mode using the INPUT button on your TV remote.
See page 11 of the TV manual, button number 7 on the remote control button layout diagram.
Keep pressing the INPUT button repeatedly until you see INPUT 2 on the TV display screen.
At this point you should be getting an input signal from the Sony DVD Player on your TV as long as the DVD player is turned on with a disc inserted.

MAGNAVOX VCR / DVD PLAYER TO TV CONNECTION
I will describe the connection procedure using the basic 3 color (yellow / red / white) cables which were included with the unit at purchase.
COMPONENT VIDEO cables are also a slightly higher quality option but would have to be purchased by you separately.
Take one end of the 3 color RCA cables and insert the colored plugs into the corresponding colored VIDEO OUT and AUDIO (L / R) OUT connections on the back of the MAGNAVOX VCR / DVD Player.
YELLOW cable plugs into the VIDEO OUT connector.
RED and WHITE cables plug into the AUDIO (L / R) OUT connectors.
See page 7 of the MAGNAVOX manual, METHOD 1.
Now take the other ends of the 3 color RCA cables and plug them into the corresponding colored INPUT 1 connections on the back of your TV.
YELLOW cable plugs into the INPUT 1 - VIDEO IN connector.
RED and WHITE cables plug into the INPUT 1 - AUDIO (L / R) IN connectors.
In order to see the output from the MAGNAVOX VCR / DVD Player, you will need to select the INPUT 1 mode using the INPUT button on your TV remote.

With most dvd/vcr combo units there is separate wiring. When I use my emerson combo unit I have it wired that I have to be on different inputs on my tv to view a dvd and a vhs. On some units the vcr portion is wired via a regular cable line, while the dvd portion is wired with the yellow, red, and white component cable. Try inserting a dvd and scrolling through your tv inputs until you find the picture or check your wiring to ensure nothing has come loose. If that has no result you could try wiring it differently if possible to eliminate that as a possibility.
Does the Sony surround upscale the signal from normal RCA to Component video? If so I have found that sometimes there can be signal sync issue. Meaning the signal that the component video convertor (inside the surround sound unit) sometimes struggles to give a clean component video signal. The TV then struggles to filter the signal correctly resulting in a jumping picture. Try plugging the DVD video only (yellow RCA lead) straight into the plasma and see what happens. You can also try playing with the signal frequency of the plasma, from 50 - 60hz. This will found in the menu of the plasma. Hope this helps. ST
If you do not get result you can purchase one video rf converter.
Rf converter contains one video input in yellow colour and two audio in red and white colour and one cable connector as outout.
Connect dvd output to this converter and tune the program in which place you receive dvd signal.
