SOURCE: Can anyone tell me how to reduce the DPI of Canon LBP 3050 Printe

Check in the printer properties. You can access this from the printer setup option as you start to print. Click on the Properties button next to the drop down for selecting the printer. Then click on the Quality tab. Alternatively, you can do this from the Control Panel in Windows. Hit Start > Devices and Printers (Start > Settings > Printers on some of the older versions of Windows). Right click on the printer and select Properties or Left click (once) on the printer and choose File > Properties. Again look for the Quality tab. In the Quality tab, you will be able to toggle between the available resolutions. Click Apply to set the setting and then OK when done. (You can also adjust the darkness of the text with the Brightness and Contrast sliders on this tab).

I hope this helps.

Whats the question?? if poor quality printing, it could be dirty ink cartridges, dirt on the print head, poor quality paper ??? try looking at the printer settings, sometimes they may be set to economy rather than top quality printing.

HOW TO GET THE BEST DIGITAL PRINTS...

Printing a photo but not getting it upto your expectation.....?? No worries just fiddle a little bit
with the printing options and keep in mind some important points that I am going to tell you....it will help:

1) RESOLUTION OF THE IMAGE TO BE PRINTED... Always keep in mind while printing a digital
printout that the resolution should be best fitted i.e. of the original photo.... if you stretch A photo too
much or squeeze you might not get the desired result. It depends upon the DPI i.e
dots per inch that appear on the paper in the snap that you print. To get a quality print you must
make sure to select proper dpi for an image in printing. Eg. for printing a snap of 300 dpi you must choose
the image resolution as 600 dpi, but in case of professionally required image quality you can select upto 24oo dpi.

2) PRINTING PAPER ... Make sure that the paper you are using is suitable for the ink and the printer that
you are using. Certain printers specially design Photo Paper suitable for the ink used in them for eg. HP printers
do have Hp photo papers to give a good quality of image.

3) SETTINGS IN THE PRINTER... You can adjust the image quality that you want by clicking on the
Properties Option in the printer dialog box that opens when you give a print command. for eg. you can select
Economy mode for saving the ink (but this will not give a good quality image as colors to will be low),
or you can use the Bes option, as suitable for you...

So next time you Print a photo or snap of yourself make sure to remember these points and have fun.....

Good Luck!!

Why possible is 300 dpi printing images and text matter

What is DPI PPI and Why Do They Matter
To some extent, we're all photographers these days. With a camera on every phone and digital SLRs coming down in price, we've all got a trove of photos waiting to be shared. When it comes time to share online, print, or email our favorite images, many are unsure about how to set the image's resolution...
If you've found yourself in this spot, don't worry - dots per inch (shortened to DPI from here on out) is a concept that even confounds some professional graphic artists. Here's a primer DPI so you can stop worrying about technology and start sharing your photos.
Getting started
Digital photos are comprised of pixels, much like the individual boxes on a sheet of graph paper. DPI tells you how small those pixels will be when the image is printed. For example, "300 dots per inch" means that 300 pixels fit across each inch. If your photo is 600 pixels tall by 900 pixels wide, for example, it would come out at 2" x 3" inches if you were to print at 300 DPI. Keep in mind that most digital photos are several thousand pixels in either direction, but for the sake of simplicity, we'll use the more manageable 600 x 900 pixels.
Separating pixels from presentation
It's important to separate DPI from the raw pixel dimensions, and this is where even the pros slip up. DPI is not an indication of image quality or clarity. When you print that 600 x 900 pixel image at 300DPI, it'll likely look pretty sharp, because every inch is densely packed with pixels.
Now imagine printing that same image, with the same number of pixels, at a mere 30 DPI. As each inch would have only 30 pixels across, the density drops immensely and the image prints much larger: 20" by 30". What was once sharp now appears blurry, because each individual pixel is now ten times larger than before. By separating DPI from actual pixel count, we can understand that raising DPI doesn't magically improve a photo. DPI simply takes the same data (the original pixels) and alters how we'll view them.
Pin it It's all about context
Another factor is viewing distance. Just think of the eye chart at your doctor's office. If you're a bit nearsighted, the tiny letters at the bottom are illegible specks, while the letters at the top are easily discerned. In actuality, each tiny letter may be half an inch tall, but the distance makes them seem microscopic. Now consider our 600 by 900 pixel image. When we printed it at 30 DPI, the giant pixels made it look blurry. Were we to look at it across the doctor's office long hallway, however, it may look just as sharp as the 300 DPI print did in our hands. This illustrates how DPI is more about context than quality.

Pin it Pixels Per Inch
You'll notice I've been talking about DPI in relation to printing only. This is because while printers can produce a variety of DPI settings, a computer display's resolution is fixed - its pixel density is part of the physical hardware, and cannot be altered. When talking about displays instead of print, most use the term PPI, or "pixels per inch."
If you intend to put your 600 x 900 pixel image online, switching the resolution to 30, 300, or 3000 PPI is completely arbitrary, because the computer display can't change its density. As modern desktop displays usually have a PPI in the low 100s, the 600 x 900 pixel image will appear around 6" by 9" (mobile displays may be much higher). Of course, your web browser could display the image smaller if need be, but it will do so by averaging and eliminating pixels, not squeezing them to be physically smaller. This is why it's always important to keep your end goal in mind when working with images.
In summary:
ā€¢ An image is defined by its pixel dimensions - # pixels tall by # pixels wide
ā€¢ DPI/PPI determines the scale and pixel density at which image will be displayed
ā€¢ What appears blurry from close up may look fine at a distance, so consider how an image will be seen
ā€¢ Printers can produce a range of DPIs, while displays have fixed resolution
Whether you're a blogger dealing with an upload limit or are just trying to print a photo to hang on the wall, understanding DPI/PPI can go a long way. I hope these tips help you feel more in control of your images and how you share them with the world!

I have used last 4 year canon 2900B printer. How to set 300 dpi printing resoluation

Canon PIXMA Manuals MG2900 series Resolution
Resolution The data in the image you have scanned is a collection of dots carrying information about brightness and color. The density of these dots is called "resolution", and resolution will determine the amount of detail your image contains. The unit of resolution is dots per inch (dpi). Dpi is the number of dots per inch (2.5 cm). The higher the resolution (value), the more detail in your image; the lower the resolution (value), the less detail.

How to Set the Resolution You can set the resolution in Resolution on the (Scanning from a Computer) tab of the Settings dialog.
Appropriate Resolution Settings Set the resolution according to the use of the scanned image.
Item Type Use Color Mode Appropriate Resolution Color photo Copying
(Printing) Color 300 dpi Creating a postcard Color 300 dpi Saving to a computer Color 300 dpi Using on a website or attaching to e-mail Color 150 dpi Black and white photo Saving to a computer Grayscale 300 dpi Using on a website or attaching to e-mail Grayscale 150 dpi Text document (document or magazine) Copying Color, Grayscale, or Black and White 300 dpi Attaching to e-mail Color, Grayscale, or Black and White 150 dpi Scanning text using OCR Color or Grayscale 300 dpi Important
  • If you double the resolution, the data size of the scanned image quadruples. If the file is too large, the processing speed will slow down significantly, and you will experience inconvenience such as lack of memory. Set the minimum required resolution according to the use of the image.
Note
  • When you will be printing the scanned image by enlarging it, scan by setting a higher resolution than the recommended one above.

Well I don't know how to scan a photo and file it or take it to print

s.gif Follow these tips to ensure your scanned photo turns out to be a stunning print.
s.gif
Resolution:
  • You'll want a higher dpi when scanning an image that you want to print.
    s.gif
  • If you want to scan an image and reprint it at the same size, 300 dpi works best.
    s.gif
File format:
  • TIFFs are ideal for printing enlargements, but a JPEG will suffice if you are printing a 4" x 6" photo.
    s.gif
Quick tip:
If you are printing a 4" x 6" image as a JPEG, but think that you may someday want to make a bigger print, archive a larger TIFF file of your photo. Unlike JPEGs, TIFFs can be edited and resaved without compromising the image quality.

I'm getting really confused with the resolution stuff

The C4000 is a 4 megapixel camera and can produce photos that should produce very nice 8 x 10 photos. 11 x 14 prints may be pushing it a bit. Your cameras should be set for 2048 x 1536 and the .jpg compression should be set to "Super High". Better yet, that camera can produce TIFF format. For photos you plan to print, use the TIFF format. The other half of this process is the printer. Most inkjet printers have a number of settings. Make sure that it is set for photo paper and be sure to use glossy photo paper. If you can print a 8 x 10 print in less than a minute, your printer is not set right. If it seems like it is taking forever, it is set right. .................... Using Photoshop Elements 2: Open your photo into Elements. Click Image, Resize, Image Size Remove the checkmark from "Resample Image" Change resolution to 300. Notice that the width height is about 5 x 7 inches. So if you print that photo at 300 dpi (dots per inch), you will get an outstanding 5 x 7 print. Most inkjet printers produce their very best outputs at 300 dpi. At 200 dpi, the image is still quite good. When you get below 150, you will start to see changes in quality. Now set the Resolution to 200 dpi and notice that the output size has changed to about 8 x 10 inches. Now check to see how it will look on paper. click OK. Click File, Print Preview You can verify that the photo fits on the paper and that the paper is correct (horizontal/vertical). Now print the photo. The next window that opens should let you get to your printer properties and you can verify that you have the printer set for it best settings and that paper is set to photo paper.
