1 Answer

Its a usb drive. when i turn on the power. it

Its a usb drive. when i turn on the power. it makes an audible alarm and wont spin up. after about a minute the blue light turns to red. and the instant it turns red i get a pop up wanting to install usb device. and i try to install it but it cant find the drivers. also it shows up in the device manager as usb device but it says that no driver have been installled. disk management shows that it hasnt been initialized. but it also shows 0 kbs. its supposed to show 500 gigs. on trying to initialize it comes up saying disk not ready. not spinning up at all. could some utility be locking the disk?

its a usb external hard drive. unfortunately it didnt come with an installation disk. when i first got it and plugged it in it was already formatted . i had to change the format to ntcs or ntfs. something like that. it worked great for about 6 months. then i let my son use it. and he brought it back that way after about a year. he has kids. so i dont know if it got dropped or not. but bottom line is it wont spin up to initialize itself. so where can i get the drivers that it is asking for?

Hi I am vortash it will show 0kbs in the management if it hasn't been installed as the system can't read it . I was wondering if the hard drive was installed with the lead in the wrong way as that is what it sounds like , ( I mean in the housing the ide plug may be up side down ) I have had a couple like this and the customer has made this very common mistake ,.. check this first then if you have a disk with the Fanton program on install it without it being connected so when you reboot after pluugging it in it finds it and loads the drivers itself ... I hope this solves your problem Regards Vortash

Hi well if it was dropped no amount of drive installation will help as they are extreemly sensative to knocks and even a slight jolt can dislodge the read slide ( the arm that traverses the disk with the read head on ) also the motors are so finely balanced a jolt breaks the spindle bearing .. are you sure it isnt spinning they are very smooth and quiet if they are not rying to read .. hold the unit in your hand with it turned on and gentley twist your hand .. it acts like a giro and you can feel the resistance as you move it if the disk is spinning .. you should be able to get the drivers from a number of places I myself subscribe to driver detective and never have any problems obtaining what I need from them I thouroughly recomend them .. you get lots of sites saying download this and that for free but as soon as you try they say you must be a member and its free to download but not to join .. catch 22 .. the other place I find drivers is on Bit Torrent but if you go to that site make sure your security software is up to date ( virus and Spyware scanners ) I am actually surprised that there isnt a generic driver in woindows that will run it it's only an Ide module after all nothing special .. well I hope this helps .. a new hard drive off ebay can be purchased for a song now so that may be your other option .. hope this is of help Rgards Vortash

Turn off audible alarm when changing towers

Bad cable connection

Check the USB cable for damage and dirt, especially at the ends. Then try using the wall charger, as this will provide greater power input than the computer/USB.

Broken charger or USB cord

Try using different chargers to see if you may have a problem with your charger or cord.

Obstructed/bad dock connector

Inspect the 30-pin dock connector at the bottom of the iPhone for dirt, lint, and damaged pins. Clean out the dock connector very carefully with a tooth pick or soft toothbrush. If the dock connector is broken, you will have to replace it.

Audible alarm sounded--"F2 "appeared on

Your model is actually a 911. Roper (Whirlpool)

The F2 error code is

E0 - Shorted keypad (also called touch pad)

E1 - Keypad cable unplugged

E5 - Cancel key drive line open

E6 - Cancel key drive line open

1. Check keypad connector for firm connection (keypad connects to control board).

2. Press CANCEL. If error code returns after 60 seconds, replace keypad (also called touch pad or membrane switch). Some models incorporate keypad in to control board as one unit. In this case, replace control board (also called ERC or clock).

Why wont my external hard drive registor on my computer? and why wont it show up on my computer?

does it show up on another laptop or computer?
Some of the larger hard drives need access to 2 separate USB ports to allow enough current for the drive to spin up and be accessed. Each USB port on your computer can only provide half an amp of current.
If the external drive has a lead with 2 USB plugs make sure you have both plugged in at the host computer.
The larger drives eg 1TB in a large enclosure usually have a dedicated power supply which you need to use. The smaller pocket size drives (containing laptop hard drives usually no larger than 500Gb) typically only make use of a USB lead for data and power access (whether it be a single or double headed USB lead)

Cant get the usb cable or port to recognize the gps

This is the info from the Lowrance website
Begin with the iWAY 250C turned off, not just on stand-by. Stand-by is the default setting for the unit when powering down. Change the settings in the interface menu to power off instead of defaulting to stand-by when the power button is pressed. Connect the iWAY 250C to an available PC port. With the PC turned on and operating, turn the iWAY 250C on. The PC should make a sound recognizing a USB connection. If there is no audible sound, try another USB port on your PC. If there is a tone of recognition and the iWAY 250C is not displayed as a separate drive in My Computer, there may be a drive conflict. Change the drive letter of the iWAY 250C. Click here if you have a drive conflict with Windows 95, 98, or ME.

500 gb passport beeps and wont recognize

This may be due to a lack of power. Unfortunately, the drive does rely on power from the laptop/PC. If you're using it with a laptop, try it on a desktop PC and plug it into a port at the back (the front USB ports are hubs and generate less power). Make sure you're using the original short USB cable (hopefully) supplied with the product.

When you initially connect it and you hold it in your hand, you may fell the drive spin up and then spin down, which is also a sign of insufficient power.

I have heard of this problem with the passport drives and this mostly solves it. If it does and you do need it for a laptop, then you would need a USB Y cable (2 type A to 1 mini 5). This provides power from 2 USB ports...

Hope this helps!

Flashing "F" on front of drive slot

The front panel display contains seven (7) lights which provide the following information: ? Power-On - Steady green glow indicates that power is being supplied to the Data Silo chassis. ? Temperature Warning - Flashing red indicates that internal operating temperature has reached 43? C (109° F). ? Blower 1 or 2 Failure - Flashing red indicates a blower has failed. ? Power Supply 2 Failure - Flashing red indicates second power supply has failed. ? Power Supply 1 Failure - Flashing red indicates first power supply has failed. ? Mute - When switch is depressed, a steady yellow glow indicates the audible warning sounds have been disabled. Depress switch again to enable sounds. ? Reset - Depress switch to reset chassis and clear any error conditions. The specs on the DS550 do not say anything about an F at all? Did you put the correct model number?
