+-+-+ Green LEDs on Battery of Latitude D600

Hi,
Purchased used DELL Latitude D600, but can't start it up. When I press the test button on the battery, it lights the 1st LED, the 3rd, and the 5th (+ - + - +). What does that mean? What can I do?

On off on off on means the battery has failed and needs to be replaced. With the battery removed, the system should run on hte AC adapter

Verify that the light on the power block is green with the cable only connected to the wall. If the light goes out when it's connected to the PC the your motherboard is bad.

NO POWER-UP ON C600

That's either a fried processor (hope not!) or a flat CMOS battery. It's a nightmare to get at that battery - you'll need to open the case completely and get at the motherboard. Once you've done that though it's easy enough to replace it, although you may need to do some shopping on ebay if it isn't the standard CR2032 coin cell type.

Hope that helps,
Matt

What is the button and set of 5 lights on a dell c610 battery for

The LEDs on the battery indicate the charge remaining. Press the button and you should get 5 LEDs with a full charge. The LEDs stay on in a steady state as long as you hold trhe button

The LEDs can also indicate an internal failure of the battery (Usually 1 3 and 5 will flash) if the LEDs flash, the battery is either critically low or failing. If charging it doesn't change the LED flashing them the battery will need to be replaced
