My maestro 4000 cuts off during normal operation

My maestro 4000 cuts off during normal operation, this happens while it is pluged into truck. When this happens it starts back up with a screen that looks like it is loading. I also lose any destination and turn by turn info. aprox 2 years old. Do I need a update program? if so which one and is there a free download I can get from my computer?

Its possible the unit is running off the adapter and loses contact and shuts off. this is a common problem on these type of magellan gps. typically they need a new power port so the battery will charge up and the adapter wont lose contact.

I can't tell if my magellan maestro 4000 gps is charging.

this could be happening for a few reasons but the most common is that its probably not charging.

before checking anything else, plug your 4000 in to a known good charger, then press and hold the power button for up to ten seconds till it starts.

if that fails, its likely not charging

this is very common problem with this and many model magellans.

the following magellan 2000, 2200t, 2500, 3000, 3100, 3140, 4000, 4040, 4050 and the 6000 are known to have faulty dc connectors...if your magellan gps is not charging or will not power up, its most likely the dc power port...

you can get help to repaired it, here
or buy the port here

if you need further help, just let me know.

Brand new Magellan Maestro 4000 does not turn on or indicate powe

I had the same problem and I solved it by cutting a few strands of speaker wire and twisting them together and inserting them into the center of the generic car gharger end which plugs into the Maestro 4000, It seems that the 4000 has a very small center conducter on the GPS itself and by adding a few strands of speaker wire about 1/2" long into the plug before pluging it into the 4000 it allows it to makes contact with the small power inlet conductor which is smaller than most generic cigarette lighter 5vdc power cords. I did this to mine and it powered up right away. The other solution is to buy the actual car power cord from Magellan which has the proper size connecton and makes proper connection all the time.

No Voice Response on My Magellan GPS System

register your unit on the magellan website, then it will be marked underneath on the site blue hit it and make sure your unit is pluged in the power cord end and the usb to the computer and unit.then and hit continue or next to go thru the process and when it is completely done and when it tells you to to unplug it do it leave the unit on and alone it will reset a few times then go to normal screen, then you are done.i did the same to mine mastreo 4000.as soon it came the firmware update.

Don't buy a Magellan. There is little to no support, and their web based support redirects to no where useful for upgrades. I'd sell you my 4040, but can't in good conscience sell it to anyone.
