Question about HP Pavilion zd8000 Notebook

HP Pavillion zd8000 Wireless Device does not show up or Connect

I have had my laptop for about 4 yrs now with no real problems until it was getting hotter than normal.
I Sent it in to the local PC Repairer/Parts supplier and was told that 1 of the cooling fans was no longer working and a replacement was not able to be sourced. They suggested an under laptop USB Fan cooling tray with 3 additional fans built into it and 4 USB outlets aswell.
$28 bux later no problems.

My kids use the laptop and i didn't notice it but they were complaining about No net connection, i said yeah yeah and finally tried to get it working.
I had to put a USB netcomm wireless stick into mit to get the net up !!

Just wondered how to see if it is working as it does not even show up in the system devices anymore.

I'm not very PC literate so a Laymans wording may have to be adopted for me Sorry in Advance :/

Cheers 44 44 Bro :)

Hi,

If it's not showing up in device manager it may have been unintentionally uninstalled or the built in wireless card may have failed. In either case the simplest way to test is to go into your Start menu, then All programs, then either PC Help & Tools or System Recovery folder. Inside that folder one of the programs will be for application and driver install. Follow the prompts in that program to re-install drivers, then select the wireless driver from the list it gives you. If the card has just been uninstalled or the driver for it has been corrupted this should remedy the problem.

If this doesn't work chances are the card is dead and would need replacement. They, like the fans, are tricky to find but you may have luck on eBay. For convenience you can just use the netcomm wireless stick as it is esentially the same but i would recommend installing it in the Nomad port if you model has it(look on the sides for a movable plate, if you look inside the port you will see a USB port at the back of the Nomad Port) this will keep the USB stick inside the shell of the laptop which will reduce the chance that it gets bumped or snagged and damamged when you move the laptop.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

I can not turn on wireless to my hp pavilion zd8000

You have a number of options:

1. Make sure the wireless switch is in the "on" position. This means that the switch is slid to the right. If it is, and the light is blue, then the wireless is working just fine, you just need to connect to a wireless router. However, if the light remains orange...

2. If you have Vista, go into the start menu and right click on "Computer" (XP, right click on "My Computer" on the desktop or where ever you stashed it) and click on "Manage" in the drop down menu. After you do this, you will see a menu on the left, double click on Device Manager (6th item down). This will open another list of items. You need to go to "Network Adapters". This drop list will tell you whether or not the wireless card is being detected. Should say something like "Broadcam 802.11 b/g WLAN". If you see that, the computer is detecting the wireless card and your wireless should be working (however, if it is detecting it and the wireless light is still orange, check the switch again, if it is switched on, then you are about to have a motherboard problem). If the wireless card is not being detected...

3. You either have a HDD, wireless card, or motherboard problem (more often than not it is the motherboard, and you would be hard pressed to find one cheap). If you want to simply try to replace the cheaper parts first and hope that works, start with the wireless card, then go into the HDD, after that, obviously, the motherboard. But I will tell you from experience, that it is more often than not, a defective motherboard.

No wifi after re-load of xp system software

Did you reinstall the drivers for the device? Check the Device Manager for your system and see if Windows sees the wireless device. If you have a red X, the device is disabled; if you have either an unknown device or the wireless device with a yellow dot with a black exclamation point, then either the driver is not installed, or the driver is improperly installed.

Wireless connection no longer works after vista upgrade

HP uses "branded" wireless modules, which means it's got to be HP or it doesn't get to play.
Does device manager see the wireless device? I've had similar situations with the 8000s. Always the driver or the wireless utility was the problem. Try letting windows manage the device, or if you already are, disable that and use the devices utiliy to manage it.
BTW, most systems consider BT as wireless.
Good luck, hope that helps
