Hole in bottom of ice dispenser tray keeps frosting over

The ice dispenser isn't working correctly. The actual mechanism is fine, but the hole in the base of the ice cube container keeps frosting over. This stops the ice cubes from dropping through the hole and down the chute, so when you operate the lever in the dispenser all you hear is the whirring noise and no ice cubes. Any idea what is causing this frost buildup? It has only happened in the last couple of weeks. thank-you

This may very depending on the model and make of the refrigerator. Try first cleaning out the dispenser to see the extent of the issue. You may want to check on the hinges. The dispenser lets ice out but should keep the warm air from coming in. You may have a faulty hinge or the door (it is like a trap door that keeps warm air out)from freezer may be faulty. Now it lets the warm air get in the door making some icecycles plus along with other particles in your machine causing a clog.

You may want to shut the trap door until you have it replaced.

Hi hermankelsey,

thank you for using fixya. have you tried defrosting the whole unit just over night?

this will help the coppers to cool down and melt the coolant to let it settle. once it is you will notice that the part will not be frosting anymore.

this is the most common issue and the most common solution.

hope this helps, should there be any other issues after this, please do not hesitate to let me know.

regards.

Whirlpool refrigerator ED5RHEXMT00 makes plenty of ice but is not dispensing any when the door lever is pressed. The water part is fine.

The ice bin slides down in little tracks and the drive mechanism engages the auger. It sounds like you have frost build-up in the bottom of the little slots that the ice bin rests in. The build-up keeps the drive from engaging the auger. I use a hair dryer to defrost all the accumulation under the bin once it is removed. Remove the bin by tilting out and then lifting up and out at an angle. Also empty the bin of ice cubes and check underneath for ice build up on the bottom of it too.

Frost builds up on the chute betwen the icemaker and the door dispenser unit.

I need you to confirm your model number. Is MZD2665HE correct? The problem is very likely a broken 12565502 Dispenser Door Spring or more providing you have the correct model number. There may be a kit if the model number is different. Thanks, John Tripp Appliance 911

Ice Dispenser keeps getting frosted over and not dispensing ice

The problem your having is that the door in the dispenser chute isn't closing completly and warm air is coming in, clashing with the freezer and the moisture in the warm air freezes and collects right there in the chute causing the ice build up. The more common parts that may cause this is the door flapper being bad or damaged, flapper soleniod, which helps the flapper doofr get a good seal, and electronic board on the dispenser itself.

Icing up

I've just had a similar problem. I fixed it by removing the large panel on the back of the inside of the freezer. I found a large build up of ice at the bottom of the freezer which seems to have developed because the drain hole at the bottom of the freezer was blocked. I defrosted the ice, cleared the drain and now the freezer is working fine.

Ice maker only makes crushed ice, no cubes I have the same problem... The same switch works fine for the crushed ice and water setting but will not dispense cubed ice. It only gives crushed.

hi.
I slid out the tray, found the lever in the back where the rod went in, pulled it down, reinserted the ice tray, and IT WORKED! At first I thought I broke the lever, because I had to hold it down with a knife while I was inserting the tray, but it just must have been stuck.
chek these sites
http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/refrigerator-freezer-repair/23620-ice-maker-only-makes-crushed-ice-no-cubes.html

There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice. In there there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed. Make sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the freezer. I had to hold it down while I slid the rod into the opening. Cubes again. http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=783

Ice dispensor only dispensing crushed ice - not cubed

Make sure that your ice tray is properly instaled. There is a rod that must go into a hole. When you select ice cubes rather than crushed ice a solenoid raises which moves that rod. It then opens a flap so the cubes can bypass the crusher. Either your rod is not in the hole correctly or the solenoid has gone bad. The rod that I am speaking of runs along the underside of the ice tray. It has a spring on the rear end that holds the bypass flpa closed.

Jenn Air Side by Side Refridgerator

You could have a layer of solid ice at the bottom of your icetray which is binding everything up. Remove ice tray and any ice from the bottom. Reinstall and be careful of the connection on the back of the ice tray, you may have to turn it a little to get it to mesh correctly. refill and try. Good luck.

Bottom of ice maker/dispenser frosting over

Open the freezer door and look down the ice chute while you shine a flashlite up the dispenser cute from the outside. If you see light around the chute door, it needs to be replaced or something is wrong with the mechanism. The problem you describe is almost always air leakage around that flap.
Post back if you need more help.

GE side by side refrigerator ice dispenser

If you take a look at this diagram, you should be able to see all the inner workings of that area and decide if you want to repair it. I think anyone with the most basic mechanical skills could easily handle this repair. See parts 62,63,67, etc. Could just be the spring is off or broken.
