When I turn off my ryobi pressure washer 3100 it make a sound like a gun shot?

I take it the "gun shot" sound is the engine back-firing...i.e. there is still pressure inside the engine from the combustion of the gas fumes. I would re-check the spark plug gap which should be between .024-.028. If the engine continues to backfire then I would recommend using a higher octane gas so the combustion can happen more rapidly.

Hope this helps.

I have a karcher high pressure washer model hd 2500 hk. What would make my unit stop running after about 45 seconds ,running at full throttle and at high pressure

Hi,

There could be two possible causes for your problem, one is oil level in the engine could be low, or the engine is tilted or not positioned on a level ground, and the second one is water in the carburetor. Check the oil level and replace the oil if necessary, drain the fuel from the fuel tank and the carburetor and clean the carburetor ports and jets, check the fuel for contamination, check and replace or clean the spark plug if necessary, check if the air filter is blocked, dirty, carbonated, or saturated with oil, and replace if necessary.

My pressure washer just stopped while working, why?

Check your oil level. This machine has a "low oil shutoff" safety mechanism. If the oil is low it shuts down.

Clean it up real well and try again. Most likely the oil is from the motor being put in a position that allows the oil to run into spots that it is not supposed to be in.

I have a rough time cranking my power washer, I go through the proper procedures but it will not start. It act like it want to crank sometime, It also backfire. How could I troubleshoot it.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
Back firing can be caused by 2 things... A spark plug / ignition breakdown or.. a sticking engine valve. Before you do anything change the spark plug. ( BPR5ES ) or equivalent. A bad spark plug will still arc at the cylinder head from the outside of electrode to the cooling fins but will not jump across the inside of electrode when installed.
If the unit has been in service for a few years the valve seats tend to get carbon on them and makes it really difficult to get it started. A single backfire can cause it not to start for hours as the backfire loosens carbon in the cylinder head area and prevents the valve from seating; therefor you lose compression. You can sometimes get by with just carb cleaner straight into the cylinder head.. but most of the time you have to remove the cylinder head and hand lap the valves with valve grinding compound. The exhaust valve is most always the culprit.
Most pressure washers do not have an oil level safety switch but if there is one installed these buggers can and do cause havoc when the sensors are dirty (wash with gas then carb cleaner) or the oil is low.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Crafstman 22hp briggs and straton engine, I've changed spark plugs, air filter...when engine runs it does so unevenly and at times backfires. What can I do to solve the problem?

Don't use the choke, turn the lean all the way to the right and back off 1 and a half turn, its running too rich, usually find this screw under bowl on carb, don't mess with the other screws, take air breather off and let breath without choking, if you have to use the choke after this start with just a little.

18hp twin cylinder Briggs & Stratton backfire

Check to see if the carb is clean, if so the anti diesel value could not be working. Apply 12 volts to value and see if it move's. If that works then you may what to check the fuel pump and see if it pumps. After you tried all that then you may have change the main jet size because these engines come with a small jet for the EPA.

I HAVE A BRAND NEW TROY-BUILT 2600PSI pressure washer. I have used it twice for about 1/2 hour each time. It worked perfectly. I tried to use it today with everything hooked up perfectly. The Honda engine...

Sounds like the governor is stuck. My pressure washer speeds up when it has to pump. Don't know if yours uses vacuum to trigger governor or direct linkage. Good Luck.
