When the phone powers up if you touch any key it just switches off then it will not switch on again and I have to remove the battery then put batt back get it to switch on

Process 1.. 1. Switch the power off from the back of the product, wait two minutes, then switch it back on again. 2. Check the power cord; try connecting it to another power socket. 3. Check that the product is properly connected in all other respects. 4. Switch the power off from the back of the product; remove the Formatter; reinsert the Formatter; switch the power on again. Process 2.. 1. Turn off the product with the Power Key on the left of the Touch Control Panel. 2. Press and release the Power Key to turn on the product. 3. Wait for about 10 seconds until the 6 buttons on the Touch Control Panel come on and then press and release one after another the RIGHT -> HOME buttons. 4. Wait for the unit to complete the booting process. The logs are now enabled in the product even if the product hangs and shows a system error. hard reset wil delete all your data including phone book contacts. power off phone ,remove back cover, now hold volume keys both up and down together, press power on button also then using stylus press the reset switch, let go the power on and reset some message will be displayed on the screen , now release both volume keys, the just volume up key again to begin hard reset.

Do this : *#7780# (*#rst0*) - This will soft reset your phone. It is different from *#7370# because all data, like contacts, calendar and notes, are not removed. It will only reset the phone settings, such as profiles, themes and shortcuts. The default lock code is 12345.(Read Method 3)

The touch sensors would have lost its power, just try to switch off the mobile and remove the battery and put it again it will solve the problem only temporarily, and if still the problem persists then get that replaced.
If yuor waranty is over, then you can just open the phone and remove the plastic slider. Then close the phone and use the stylus to operate the exposed key lock switch. This is the simplest way, i found. The plastic slider is very delicate and is very likey to break if you slide it very hard or after a few thousand times of lock/unlock operations. This is something Motorola should have thought about before designing it in. Like Nokia or HTC, they could just have put the screen lock control in the power switch/ phone on-hook switch itself.
