TEMP Light on Dell 2300MP Projector - New Details - Need Help

Runs for a short time then the TEMP light comes on, then the lamp shuts off.

Fan runs on low until it overheats. After the lamp turns off, the fan runs on high.

I had this projector cabinet disassembled to a minimum. Had 2 Server Fans connected to a 12DC power supply. I changed the directions of the fans: blowing down on the lamp, pulling heat off the lamp, both in, both out, etc. No way should it have overheated, as they were moving large volumes of air. But it still overheated each time.

Where is the 2nd fan?

There is something that resembles a centrifugal fan with a air channel pointing right at the lamp bulb. It’s hidden behind the color wheel. I can see it with the lamp removed. I can’t tell if it runs because the lamp is in the way.

I have reset it through the menu and also a hard reset. And I still have the same TEMP problem. Why does the one fan run on low until it overheats the runs on high after the lamps turns off?

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

Something is wrong in the projector you should have it inspected, theres not much I can suggest without haveing a look at it. I suppose you have had it unpluged for a while and tryed again.

Self-diagnostic for video

  • Dell 2300MP Projector provides self-diagnostic test of the projector video display (for Video, S-video, Component-i). Use this advanced feature for preliminary self-diagnostic on your projector when encountering a display problem for video.
  • After turning on the projector, press "+" and "-" buttons on the control panel simultaneously and release the buttons when screen goes blank.
  • Press "+" and "-" buttons again to exit the diagnostic mode.
  • While in Self-diagnostic mode, the screen will run a seven-color-cycle test as following: "Red--> Green--> Blue--> White--> Watchet Blue--> Dark Green--> Yellow." Ensure that the colors of the test pattern are correct. Contact Dell if the colors are not displayed correctly.

Check that you replaced the lamp in the right way, and also that the unit is well reassembled, you may also need to reset lamp counter from menu on some model.

SOURCE: projector heating up and bulb shuts down

The ambient temperature in the room is to high.
Try lowering the room temperature. If that doesn't work
get a small fan and place it near the projector to provide
extra cooling. The projector is running border line on
high temperature and just needs a little extra cooling.

can you also check the cables running from your fan to the projector if it is loose after you turned off the projector... Open the unit just like when you check the power supply and board. Normally, if the fan does not move, it is more on the cabling itself given that the supply, board and fuse are ok. Check closely the cables to it. If the cables are loose, try to tighten up. But if it is cut off, then refer to Dell for the repair of your fan..

Looks like there is power supply problem as well as the lamp.

1 Clean all filters
2 Check out power supply (usually a few capasitors need to be replaced)
3 Wuld be a good idea to check the lamp in wokring projector, but if the "Lamp" light is constantly on it is more likely a faulty lamp as well.

Replacing the lamp module requires special considerations:
  1. Turn off the projector.
  2. Wait 30 minutes for the projector to cool down and then unplug it.
  3. On the bottom of the projector, loosen the two screws on the lamp cover and then remove the cover.
  4. Loosen the two screws on the lamp module and pull out the module.
  5. Insert the new lamp module and tighten the two screws.
  6. Install the cover and tighten the two screws.
  7. Turn on the projector. If the lamp does not turn on after the warm-up period, try reinstalling the lamp again.
  8. Press enter on the projector or on the remote control to open the on-screen menu.
  9. Press the up (c00589410.gif ) or down (c00589411.gif ) arrow to select Setup and then press the right (c00589412.gif ) arrow.
  10. Press the up (c00589410.gif ) or down (c00589411.gif ) arrow to select Reset lamp hours and then press enter .

Dell 2300 MP temp light flashes and projector turns off.

I am experiencing a similar problem with mine. It will cycle on and off without actually powering up fully and then after about the 4th or 5th time it will shut off completely and the lamp indicator light on top illuminates. i am reading in other blogs that this is a design flaw on this unit. let me know if you have found any fixes.

A couple of things...

If the fan is not working, the lamp will not fire. If you have the owner's manual, it should indicate what the flashing lights mean. Check to make sure that the panels are seated properly. When you replaced the lamp, the outer cover was removed. If that is not seated back 100%, the unit will not work. There are a number of safety "checks" built into the unit to prevent damage and possibly fire as the lamps get really hot.

Check the items above and let us know your progress.

DELL 2300 MP NOT TURNING ON

Have the same problem here. Have two of these units. Took the bulb out of the one that had the Lamp light on, and put it in the other projector. The other projector worked perfectly. I have three bulbs, they all work in the one projector, they all cause Lamp Light in the other one. The manual states nothing about hard resetting the unit. Also note that, the fans do not power up instantly on power on, they come on about 5 seconds after pressing the power button.
